  • Cancelled my Order

I cancelled my order yesterday for a Polo Gti and got my deposit back. No sign of a build date after 5 months, also informed that one customer waited 14 months. Beautiful cars, the Polo would have been my dream car has been 25 yrs since my last one.......hehe. While waiting I'm losing value on my trade in and when the Polo arrives ....possibly 2013 the car will be at its mid life point so the thrill of having the newest model kinda wains.

If I see any owners in Adelaide I'll come and have a chin wag.

VW Germany need to understand that customers are only prepared to wait so long. unfortunatly for us in Australia we are not priority for VW. Never the less the waiting has damaged the brand in my eyes. As for the dealer their hands are tied and they kept me informed from day one.

Good on you VW for making such a desirable car.........Shame on you for not being able to deliver in a reasonable time frame.

Have a great New Year to all the forum users and enjoy your Polo.

That's exactly why I went with a 77TSI, I couldn't afford to wait that long (that, and I wanted a manual). I still ended up waiting over 6 months. Wishing I had the extra HP now though

I sympathise with you on waiting times. I waited 6 months for a local manufacturer to produce the car I ordered, never again. Now I'll just look at whatever dealers have in stock and compromise on the spec.

Actually this is the best way to go.

A good dealer will show you exactly what they have in stock covering year of manufacture, colour, and options. You might have to comprmise on something that the dealer will fit rather than it being a factory fit.

I cancelled my Polo GTi order today, after waiting 12 months. I was told last week that it would arrive in July 2012. My deposit was returned immediately. Sure I could have a waited another 4-5 months, it wouldn't have killed me. I will certainly miss this GTi as it was fully optioned. Some other person will no doubt snap it up once it arrives.

The reliability of my current Golf 118 TSi that I purchased new in 2009 has honestly put me off VW's altogether and forced me to reconsider purchasing the Polo GTi, particularly any VW with the 1.4 twin charged engine setup. I've experienced many problems in the Golf such as engine misfiring although this lessened after a software update, takeoff shudders and loud engine noises almost every time I start the ignition. Just recently at the 53,000 Km mark, the engine has started to vibrate at idle and even under light acceleration. Not what you want for a newish car. It's going back to the dealership next week to be looked at again, let's see what the service guys say this time. I'm fed up with this car and hence didn't want to inherit the same problems with another VW of the same engine type.

If you do a quick google search for Golf 118 TSi engine issues, you get tons of people commenting about serious engine problems. Not great for the reputation of VW.You expect nothing less than solid German engineering particularly when spending 40K for a "small" car, but sadly you don't get it.

Anyway enough from me. I do hope that no one else out there experiences any mechanical issues with their Polo GTi's.

          Happy motoring.

Can't understand why VW don't ship GTIs there...

Here we have a lot of Polo GTI ready for delivery at the dealer's showrooms, at least one per dealers and you can have a good discount (9% at least, sometimes also 12%) from the full price...

because we are an entire country of 22million people who VAG don't give a s**t about. If they're anything like the other car companies around the world, we also get the crap that is built at the startup of RHD builds then the other markets around the world get the stuff built correctly, though nearly ever VW is built rubbish

+1. We're VW's global dumping ground for excess production at higher mark-ups. Hence why we have bad prices, long waits if it's popular, and only receive some models 2+ years into their production.

                /end rant

I would disagree with that... VW germany must love us. Our currency has appreciated against the euro by 30% in the last 2-3yrs. We are a gold mine compared to the flat euro markets. Prices of VW models have remained constant or decreased over the last 5 yrs. Sales in Australia are rising. VW is willing to ADR the low volume Scirocco R at shortish notice for our market then charge a price that undercuts the Megane RS250.

They bring in the 3 door Golf R after prompting by potential buyers (even after it's proven that not many really want the 3dr). We get both the 3 and 5 door Polo GTI, with a plethora of options, when alot of Asian markets get 5 door and set spec levels.
VW just upped the Polo GTI spec ($1200 worth) at no extra cost. In fact the whole range a price correction that makes the Polo price competitive in the marketplace.

For every whinge on here about a wait for a Polo Gti there is another where a person has gotten one with barely any wait at all. The head of VW Aus has got double the allocation of Polo GTIs out of VW Germany for its second year on sale.

The Golf range here has around 6 engine combinations (from 1.2 to 2L turbo) whilst most of their competitors have on average 2-3. Even at the end of its lifecycle it is still at the top of the pack.

I live 1000km away from their factory (i believe australia is more then 10k km away?) and i dont even have an option of ordering GTI so you are not in the worst spot xD

Hi,sorry to hear about your experience as I share similar pain for a year till I got my car last dec.2ndly,it's a joy driving the polo gti as much as there are little problems to resolve and trouble shoot by the vw tech support.they do give 100percent help while under warranty .its love And hate but I conclude there's more love to it.if your budget allows, the current golf gti is better built and worth the try .good luck mate tay

The only car you would wait a year + for is a Ferrari, C63 Coupe Black or a Nissan GT-R built to your spec.

good decision to cancel the order. i have a polo tsi, not so happy since i had it, rattle here, squeak there. other people may not mind it, but i'm very fussy abt my cars especially its a brand new car which i waited for 6 months for it. i used to own a 2nd hand s3 which is smooth quite and definitely no rattle. it just shows the different between German built and south Africa built. i'll say good on u DrDanyG!
