Which would you buy ? 06 Polo GTI or Brand New Polo Trendline

I just did a back roads run (Cann river down, Omeo back) from Sydney to Melbourne and back in my 2006 Polo GTI. It was a blastOnly mods are APR re-flash and the Cupra R control arm bushes. The bushes are the single best value mod you can do to a 2005-2009 Polo GTI.
Equipment wise the Polo GTI is about the same as a comfortpack 6R Polo.

That Fabia could be worth stretching the budget for but that's a question for the OPResident grumpy old fart

Except that Aussie Honda Jazz is made in Malaysia or somwhere and has an inferior build quality to the NZ version which is built in Japan.
This from a friend who spends his time ferrying Hondas around in NZ2021 Kamiq LE 110 , Moon White, BV cameras F & B

We were looking for a new car so the older model Polo didn't come into the equation.
We initially looked at the Trendline because it was in the same ball park $ as the fiesta, Jaz etc, but once the dealer pointed out the fundamental differences, we opted for the 77TSI Comfortline.
Our quoted price difference on road was $2500 extra for the Comfortline 77TSI man ($22,000 drive away, only tinted widows).
Some differences:
Comfortline v Trendline
Mag Wheels v Steel Wheels
4 wheel Discs v rear drums
Cruise Control v None
4 doors v 2 doors (personal choice - 4drs was better for our needs)
1.2 turbo v 1.5 non turbo
6 speed v 5 speed.
All this for $2500 extra.
After 12 months of the 77TSI, we would still make the same choice - sunroof would be nice but not available 12 months ago.

If I was looking for a new car around the $18k mark I'd look at Ford Fiestas (actually, I'd look at a 1-2yr old Fiesta for around $14kish).
If I was looking 2nd hand then I'd go for an 07/08 Skoda Octavia 1.8TSI for $16k-18k Better engine with better fuel consumption than the GTI Polo, lower maintenance costs (cam chain), better appointed but a fair bit bigger (Golf size with a bigger boot area), which you may not want.carandimage The place where Off-Topic is On-Topic

I think I would be having a good long look at the Skoda as well. But so much depends on what the OP actualy wants. The Fiesta for example would never work for me because I couldn't fit my swords in the boot!!!Sword Dude
