  • Ordering Polo GTI in WA...

    Hi all,

After many many months I have finally decided to place an order on a polo GTI. It has now been over a year since somebody ran into the back of my old car causing it to be written off so I guess it is about time to move on

This will be my first "new" car purchase and I am keen to hear from fellow Perthites about their experiences with local dealers, preferably good ones but all are welcome

Also after reading other threads I am a bit confused as to whether the RCD510 is now standard. If not is it a worthwhile upgrade or am I better off purchasing a good aftermarket unit?

    Thanks,

    Fun

For a start, you're a VERY brave person, it's probably the most hit and miss vehicle on the market to date, even more so than a great wall.

Save yourself the cash and have a look at an aftermarket unit like an ebay RNS unit for example. And no, the RCD unit isn't standard.

You could also look at the upcoming (Jan/Feb 2012) Skoda Fabia vRS. Plain to look at but should be good value and the palette of colours is appealing. You can also mix and match roof colours and wheels (silver, black chrome, anthracite and white)

I was of the opinion that Nov+ 2011 built Polo GTIs will come standard with RCD510 and comfortpack. Maybe this needs to be confirmed with a dealer.

        Hi Gavs,

Thanks for the reply. From reading your posts I can see you are a well respected member of these forums

I have to admit reading some of the posts has me a little apprehensive. However, saying that not one other new car in this price range really interests me anywhere near as much as the polo gti. In fact I would sooner drive (which i do) an 89 corolla then buy a new Falcodore or like. Perhaps a downgrade to 77tsi would be an option and from what I have read most problems with them has been bangs and rattles...though I could be wrong.

Would it be naive for me to expect VW to iron out these manufacturing issues in the next 9+ months it will take for them to build the car and if not I should be covered under the new car warranty?

Have heard good things about Skodas but not sure about the look of the fabia...a bit to flashy maybe. Also prefer the DSG as I am well and truly sick of manual transmission in traffic. I know the standard Fabias are currently manul only not sure what the RS will come with on launch.

Look, it is a fun little car to drive and I have been really enjoying mine. It's only fresh off the boat (about 700kms in) so I've got everything crossed that the oil consumption issues don't come my way. I took Gavs advice on the run in so we'll see if that helps!

That said, when I picked up the car, the dealer told me that the cars do 'run rich' on oil and to drop in and they'll fill it up if it's low. So it appears they are now admitting there is something wrong. However, we also have an Amarok and that runs rich too - so who knows!!!

However, VW service STINKS! Most of the people on here will have horror stories and I've got my fair share and currently fighting with them about the dodgy parking sensors they installed. So the after sales service is rubbish and until all the delivery issues are sorted out I'm going to continue pestering the dealership I bought the car from and then I'll take my business elsewhere!

So if you're prepared for a long wait, a car that could have issues and crappy aftersales service then knock yourself out But I am pretty happy with it and loving the fact I've got one!

The Fabia VRS is DSG only. It's essentially a Polo GTI underneath.

Comes in Hatch or Wagon (!!)

              hey funtastic!

I ordered my candy white polo GTI with RCD510 from Osborne Park VW back in March, and it's due to be delivered late January (on a boat now!!)

Personally, I would avoid Osborne Park VW - I only ended up purchasing from there because the salesman is German and the accent seduced me.

I've heard great things about John Hughes VW - and they even have a Polo GTI in their showroom right now.

I also upgraded to the RCD510.... happy to send you the pricing etc I paid!

Who is it that loses out with warranty claims (other than the purchaser ) the dealership or vw itself. It would seem to me it would be in the best interests of the dealership to go in to bat for their customers?

The wait is not a problem as it fits in well with my gf finishing her studies next year

I bought my Bora from John Hughes and had it serviced by Osb Pk VW till recently - they always 'looked' after me though when some of their experienced staff moved on, I decided it was better to go to a specialist - I can recommend Golfwagen for the services. You don't void your vehicle warranty if it is serviced by a licensed repair company.

I find the inexperience of the dealer techs quite an issue.

Hey mate....i recently bought my POLO 77 tsi from volkswagen melville....i got pretty ok service...some things they were a bit useless with but all in all ok....only problem i had with the car was the wheel alignment...the car was pulling to the left and got worse and worse....obviously some bar steward didn't tighten a bolt up....all good now though.....its been a great car and im really enjoying it....i asked them about the polo GTI and they have said they have had no issues with the cars at all...apparently vw has changed the engine? it used to be the 118 and now it is something else apparently....they did say it eats a bit of oil but not really something to worry about. Technically you should check your oil and tyre pressures every week anyways!

anywhom i reckon u have made a cool choice....i would of got it if i wasn't poor haha

Ummm.. That IS the problem that some GTI owners are experiencing.

Silver Polo GTI came into the dealership (Osb Prk) mid last week.... rang them up as nearly bought a japanese automobile, they said they have one in... 5dr - went in the next day and oops. Bought it!

It was ordered by some lady, they called her said it's in - she said moving to UK! I didn't want the person who was coming in that arvo to buy it! haha

Basically a stock GTI Polo... no climate control or auto headlights... I'll miss those on my current stupid french car (don't ask) but for tax purposes I get it on Jan 3! Only now 13 days til the key is in my hand! Soo.. best place to service it?
