at the moment there's heavy fog here for a week now, and the fog light works wonders for visability. If only they made the reverse light as bright..

I wonder if it's possible to use a stronger watt bulb for the single reverse light without getting any errors on the dash?

Golf mkV had the single reverse light. Plenty of people hated it & tried alternatives with varying degrees of success. it's worth doing a google & reading a few threads.

I'd think the first question would be "what is the bulb type & wattage of the OEM unit"

I went driving with gavs a while back and it was quite foggy for the first part. About 1/4 way through the fog he turned on his foglights and dam it does make quite a difference. That one light cuts straight through and goes to your view. Much more noticeable. I know on my 9n3 its pretty bright. If I spam it on a friend who is behind me ican see it flash on the inside of their car

As for the reverse light, I havent driven a non vw in a while so used to the 1 but on the 9n3 polo I regularly delivered pizzas at night and could easily notice the curb when it was black previously. Tho.. My windows aren't tinted

Yeah, the rear foglight has it's reflector aimed towards the eye level of a following vehicle so it stand out more. Glad it helped mate, that run through the reefton that day, geez that fog was thick!

I called up a VW servicing department and was going to ask this question but before I got to it, I was advised that the reversing light is not designed to 'Light anything up. It's just there as a warning to other drivers that you intend to reverse". I then asked him how are we supposed to see what we are backing into when in a dark street.

His comment was to look out the rear window. I retorted "I can't see what's out the back window in a dark street because the reverse light is so piss weak that it doesn't light up anything!"

Haha you go him there. Since i live in a busy street i always have to reverse in the driveway and it does make it difficult with the one light being dim. Luckily, it's no so much of a hassle once i get in a bit further in due to the motion sensor outdoor lighting on the front porch.
