  • 3 Door Polo to be dropped in 2012...

So I was just reading a comparison article of sub-compact cars on Drive -

And there was one simple, small sentence that caught my attention.

'The basic three-door Polo (which will next year be discontinued as part of a "model restructure")...'

Makes sense with the arrival of the smaller, cheaper 3 door VW Up!. So for anyone out there considering ordering a 3 door Polo, it might be time to get cracking with your deposit.

Another article also mentioned a very good reason to drop that model. It frees up the Spain factory to build more Polo GTIs.

If they made the TSI 3 door like they do in Europe they would sell like hot cakes...but good ole Australia loves big doors that don't get used all that often......

i must admit i was surprised when i found out that they sold the 1.4 in a 2 door, but not the 1.2 turbo...

i agree, the 1.2 tsi in a 2 door would be a great "little brother" to the polo gti, with sport pack and a tune...

This was actually mentioned in that thread about the new MY12 changes. I'm surprised it took this long for them to announce it. Still no official word on the changes though

Happy to hear it won't affect the GTI. Even happier to hear it should shorten the wait for those of us who've ordered a 3dr GTI

is the 1.4 engine any good?, all the reviews say that the 1.2 blows it out of the water...

then imagine going from the 1.4 to the GTI......

if it's anything like the 1.4 na engine in the 9n3, then my answer is:

BEFORE i had a tune, i had my first service done at the dealer, and the loan car was the 1.4 polo "club". my tdi was FAR from quick.

took the loan car out of the lot, turned onto a main road and booted it. i literally started laughing, it was that slow.

(not to offend anyone who's bought a 1.4 polo - they're great cars, and i'd gladly daily one).
