  • Just installed W8 cabin light

    Hey guys,

Installed a new mod yesterday, the W8 cabin light, with red ambient led's. It's a genuine VW product, which is normally fitted to the more expensive VW models. It looks awesome and the lighting is much more powerfull than the standard cabin light. The W8 module has 3 bulbs vs. 1 bulb in the standard module. The installation was around 15 mins. You have to run a wire from the W8 to the light switch, but it's pretty simple. The W8 can be bought on ebay for 80 USD.

mk 4 passat ? would you need to get a w8 sunroof model if you have a sunroof button in your stock one ?

edit: is the wiring hard to do ? and do you get the ambient red leds come on when you turn the headlights on ?

Nice mod mate. Also nice underwater driving, is that seaweed on the windscreen?

Hehe...seaweed, good one! Actually it was just a rainy day, and the car was parked next to a lawn when i took the shot. The wiring is very simple, you have to run a cable from the W8 module to the lightswitch via the a-pillar. If you have a sunroof in your car you just need the W8 sunroof model. The red leds come on when you start the car, and stay on (like most of the other red ambient light in the car). So they are permanently on, but they are not very bright and you don't notice them during the daytime. You can however adjust the brightness of the leds, like the rest of the ambient light.

Nice mod! My mate's R32 has the ambient red LED's and they do a great job of giving the gear stick a cool red glow at night time. Subtle yet effective.

                  just another question:

did you need to purchase the w8 dome light harness ? TMTuning website says you need it....

also i don't know if it's just me, but the TMTunign "add to basket" link seems dead. Can anyone else try ?

Thanks for the confirmation that it can be fitted to a Polo.
I had a quick look for black, non sunroof models but no luck.

                    Any links to sellers?

AFAIK the W8 cabin light is only available in grey and beige, which would make it look a bit out of place in the black GTI headliner.

Yes, the harness/adaptercable is needed for the installation, at least if you wanna keep it simple, and plug 'n' play.

I don't know if it comes in black, but I've never seen it for sale anywhere, so probably not.

I don't think there's an online guide available for the Polo 6R, but if you got any questions I will be happy to answer them.

Anyone find a black one as my Polo GTI had a black interior?
