  • Brake rotor shudder

    Hi all

    Had an issue with my polo at service. The brakes shudder when braking from about 80kmph and the whole car shakes. Dealer agrees that there is a problem and is not caused by my driving but vag refuse to address it. Anyone else had this issue?

    Get that in writing from your dealer and then take it further. VAG generally will see brakes as a consumable and will not warrant them but if it falls within a reasonable time frame from new, you should have a case for a warranty claim. This should be done by the dealer regardless as they will still get reimbursed by VAG anyway.

    Where in ringwood you based azzamataz?

        this would likely be to the brakes needing machining. This can happen to even new cars (say less than a month old).

        All it takes is hard braking, and then drive through a deep-ish puddle, and the brakes going from extreme heat, to cold can cause the steel to warp, leading to these conditions (steering wobble while breaking).

        I only know this because I found the hard way myself on another car.

            It's possible the wheel bolts might have been overtightened, and/or tightened unevenly.

            EDIT : If being the case, theory goes that whoever did up the bolts should be held liable for their actions.

                  Cool, I'll keep an eye out for you! I'm opposite daiseys, not so good on a saturday night.....

                  Odd that if the dealer agrees there's an issue that they won't acknowledge it if they have been following it up with VAG. Maybe do a wheel rotation yourself, see if that changes anything. A wheel only needs to slightly be out of balance for it to cause headaches.

                    My wife's Polo 77TSI Sportline had the same issue and the front discs were replaced under warranty. Apparently the measurements were 'out of round' and VWoA approved the replacement.

                    Keep pestering your dealer I would say.

                      at my least service they were like "yeah its because of hard braking or because water might of been sprayed onto the discs when they were hot" and said the whole thing needs to be replaced. They made it sound as if it wasnt covered under warranty. MK532 how old / how many km's did you have when they replaced it?

                        @JexL

                        The discs were replaced about 14 months after purchase. We had done about 30,000km.

                            We go to Camberwell Volkswagen. This particular issue was investigated at their Doncaster service centre.
