    +1.

Looking forward to driving one of these. Reviewers seem pretty impressed with prototype. I think in Aus, it'll all come down to price. If it's in between Polo and Golf pricing, they might just have a winner.

Apparently this is an Audi A1 Quattro special to be released in 2012

Limited edition to sit above the S1.

The latest reports suggest the A1 quattro will cost around £40,000 and will be available from the middle of 2012. The S1, with around 220bhp, will follow in the middle of 2013.
The worrying part is the date range they have for the release of the S1 (mid 2013). If that's the case then the Polo R could be a long time coming. Probably to occur at facelift time?

Furthermore they would most like press release a road variant of the Polo R on the same year it debuts in the WRC to aid in marketing/advertising which would fall under the facelift period e.g late 2013 early 2014

            Not coming to Australia though

Audi A1 quattro: 333 for production, none for Australia | Car Advice

The Audi A1 quattro features the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Audi S3 and Volkswagen Golf R. It produces an identical 188kW of power in the A1 quattro, but an additional 20Nm of torque, taking its total output to 350Nm.

Teaming a six-speed manual transmission with Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive system, the A1 quattro blasts from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 245km/h.

yap,you are right as with the s2000 aspirated engine, its easier to out accelerate, knowing its handicap being non super and turbo charge but the love of the s2000 kicks in when one hits Vtec at 9000rpm.I drive both the honda and vw polo gti.cheers tay

Audi has said that there are no S1 plans anymore and if there is an S1, it is most likely to be front wheel drive, hence why there are only 333 of the A1 Quattros being buit, it's not economical to change the entire platform to take the AWD setup.

The new platform was never intended for awd.

I thought they had already developed a AWD chassis for it

Regardless probably by the time they come up with a S1 or a Polo R i think Toyota and Mazda will be bringing back the good ole initial-D cars which means most City hatch/coupe drivers will rush back to the thrashers xD

Me is just a silly old chap, but me think that the POLO R is going to be one of the most interesting motoring vehicles of all times.

VW Polo R: WRC car for the road hits the skids | Car Advice
The Volkswagen Polo R, a model that was due to become the German car maker’s road-going version of its 2013 World Rally Championship contender, looks to have exited stage left.

The company’s board member for development, Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, admits a VW Polo R production car would be beneficial from a marketing tie-in with VW’s motorsport campaign but says VW is struggling to find a market for it.
