Positive Experiences with your Polo

G'day,

I have been lurking for some time now, have ordered a Polo Gti .....loved the car after driving the 1.2 TSI which was impressive also.

The dealer said 12 month wait upfront so we knew what we were getting in too. I can't wait to get the car, my question is. Is anyone actually enjoying owning their Polo? What are your good experiences?

Mostly I see these topics with various theories and experiences.

Yeah, the rattles are a minor annoyance.

The oil usage is too, and will also get expensive - at $30 per litre (more expensive than bottled water!) I'm grateful I know about it, so I can check.

And don't forget the speeding fines!

I'd say the drive is worth it!

All of my issues were dealer and VGA related, not vehicle. So far, so good currently in tassie with a corolla hire car and can't wait to get back to the polo, perfect over here for it, cool humid climate and magnificent roads everywhere, the roads planners must not have rulers here

Couldn't agree more, I was there for a few days recently in an auto i30 hire car and am planning to head back with my polo in the warmer months for a proper look around. Went "the back way" from Cradle Mountain back to Launceston, at one point had a run of 45mins in twisty heaven without encountering another car! Bliss...

As for positive experiences, well aside from the fuel line rattle issue (twice fixed, this time hopefully permanently), every time I get in the thing is a positive experience for me

As for Tassie we were there earlier this year, your right gavs and Gusman perfect for the Polo.

I had a MK2 Polo in the late 80's 1.3 Silver Coupe I used to go home the long way just to have more time in the country lanes.

My new Polo 77 TSI sport, best car I have driven, 3months old, no rattles or oil issues or any other problems
Couple of MINOR issues
Centre console has hard edge which hurts my knee, should be soft compound like dash, so I just glued a small bit of neoprene to the console.
Power lacking when going very slowly, like 900 rpm & takes a second to get going. ie from doing 5kph in first. Fixed by applying a bit of clutch, & giving it a rev. & dropping clutch
But these are very petty problems.
Apart from that this Polo is an absolute pleasure to drive, great acceleration, & with ridiculous fuel economy (just as good at 160kph as 110kph)
This Polo looks damn hot in fire red, esp with the sport pack
This the only car I have had where people stop me in the street just to say what a great car, on many occasions

I had a similar experience with Tasmania. Tasmania & Queensland are really in a class of their own when it comes to "fun driving roads". Unfortunately when people take that fun a little too far, they are also the most dangerous roads. I drove a Lancer VRX rental around Tassie, and it was amazing. Probably was 50% car and 50% road/scenery, though.

I was actually deciding between the Lancer VRX & Polo GTI - ended up going with the polo!

Yeah, the taste roads are good, can't say the same about the drivers though! Aside from the consistent suicidal overtakes over double lines, the worst is that the mongrels don't dip their damn highbeams! Thank god there are hardly any xenon equipped cars here because the drive back from freycinet the other night was bad enough!

Glad someone else in a 6r is enjoying the state's twisty stuff...=) Did a run between Launceston and Devonport the back way with my mate setting pace in a Type R...

Nary a better way to spend a sunday =)

Mate, would have loved to take the GTI over for most of the twisty roads but aside from the stupid cost of putting the car on the big red boat, the quality of the major roads and highways is deplorable on the straighter drives!

SHould organise a cruise for mainlanders to head over on the boat and meet up with some local, i found some AWESOME roads over there, some which are meant to be main roads (like the road from port elizabeth to cradle mountain!) others, like the road from richmond up to the highway had an awesome twisty section in it

Not very many twisty bits up in Brisbane (well, where you can really open it up) so i havent really gotten a chance to give the H&R springs a work out..

Head out to Mt Mee or Mt Glorious, I've had a lot of fun out there recently. Makes me wish I had better brakes though, might have to upgrade the pads and see how much difference that makes.

+ 1 to this. I would've never gotten it without the sports pack.

I'm glad i waited until this year to get a new car (previously i was considering the honda city) that i can be proud to own.
