  • Display lighting question

I noticed this morning that the normal daytime display differs in intensity, depending on ambient light from outside.
When I was driving in the shade, or under much overhangin branches, the speedo and tacho were hardly lit, and all that was lit up was MFD and red needles on tacho and speedo. As I went through more brightlly lit areas the whole display lit up again.
Or afgter switching to parkers and back again, display was bright for a moment and slowly dimmed again.
Can anyone confirm this feature (and I assume there must be a sensor in car which I could not spot)?

I admit I've not read the manual, so could be something in there...(-:

Yep, the Golf's do it too. I believe you need the headlights to be in Auto position (hence why you see the result you do with parkers & back). So if you have them to off, you don't get any dash lights, no matter how light/dark it is. I haven't specifically looked for the sensor, but I've been told it's in one of the dials (not sure whether speedo or taco though).

Being too familiar and reliant on the auto lights, I was in the same boat when I first got my car - "What happened to my lighting?"
After getting numerous responses from fellow members and even asking VW to set the dash lighting on permanently (which cannot be done with 11.5), I have resorted to switch the lights on as soon as I start the car.
