  • Advice for getting another 215/40/17 87V ContiPremiumContact 2

Hi. I need to source a replacement stock tyre for my polo. Im having trouble finding such a tyre near where i live in Berwick, Melbourne. Has anyone here had a good experience purchasing a replacement tyre? Is anyone wanting to sell a near new tyre? Cheers, Chris.

Call Conti importer in Sydney and get their help to locate 02 9436 3980. They are extremely helpful. Good luck.

I've had to replace all 4 tyres already - ruined a front one before Xmas and replaced both fronts with Bridgestone Adrenalin RE001. Just ruined a back one on Saturday night, and have ordered a pair of Adrenalin RE002 (replacement for the RE001). There was a wait time of several months on the Conti's the first time I was looking for tyres, and the price was ridiculous. From memory I was quoted around $390 for one tyre. The Bridgestones have cost me $270ea for the first pair, and $255ea for the new ones.

Good to see they still can't sort out stock for these stupid things. We waited a good 3 months for a replacement after an unrepairable puncture at the start of the year!

Try the Conti distro and if they can't sort it out in a few days, just buy a pair of something else and keep the good one as a spare for the other 2. Don't wait around. Our 3 month wait started as 4-6 weeks and kept growing!

VW and Audi constantly have this problem. My friend's A3 suffered a wait of 4 weeks that just grew. When I had my Golf GTI, I had a 2 week wait having to run around on a bicycle tire with one eye on the speedo.

On my BMWs, no problems at all for immediate replacement at BMW (for a premium but at least available), Conti or Bridgestone. And they were run flats too.

VW Group have no agreements with they factory suppliers to service their sales markets. Just plain poor.

I find it odd that the standard fitment of tyre to the GTI (also on 17" wheels with the same specs) is the Dunlop SP sport maxx, yet on the boa's they offer a different tyre.... The sport max have a bit of road noise but nothing that a good exhaust can't drown out

Any recommendation for which tyres one should go when buying new wheels? I will be getting some 18" wheels in a few months (financial manager approved if I save for them )

                  Saabby,

The respective tyre manufacturers are informed of every tyre combination fitted to imported vehicles.
They are then requested to carry stock of said tyres.

That's great but it doesn't happen.

I waited 3 months for a replacement Conti on the Polo and nearly 2 months for a Dunlop Sport Maxx GT on my R (took a lot of hunting around). Never had that issue with any other car.

Depends what your budget is mate, if i was you i would go Dunlop SP Sport 9000 Tyres thats if you can fit them, this is the tyre that is fitted for the Golf GTI with Detroit 18's (black inset GTI wheels).

How come you need to replace a single tyre so often?

If that is the case, then it would appear that VW/Audi are talking and no one is listening.

But it is strange how VW often have a faulty tyre. My neighbour had the same issue with his Golf GTI just after my one was resolved. Fortunately Bridgestone in Artarmon brought in 2 at the time I had the problem.

Unlucky, good timing, **** happens....whatever you want to call it. Missus copped a puncture in the sidewall and mine was after a buckled rim which also damaged the inner sidewall of the tyre.

Point is, that is 2 new release VW's with 2 different brand tyres and stock was impossible. I'm not the first to complain about the same items so there is a clear problem.

On a similar note, we've developed a bubble/egg/aneurysm in the sidewall of our front right GTI tyre after an unavoidable pothole. I've been searching around in vain for a 215/40R17 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyre to no avail. I thought I got lucky this afternoon after ringing Mona Vale and found out when I made the hike there, it was a 215/45R17....

I've got a mate who owns a tyre shop and he says the whole Australian (at least NSW) network doesn't have that size tyre in stock in that particular OE brand fitment. There isn't even an ETA showing on the computer, which means they're not even on a boat here from Germany/Japan. Tirerack doesn't even stock them.

I'm now torn as to what to do. All tyres are near new!! It seems I have to buy two fronts of a different brand, chuck the bubbled tyre and keep one the other Dunlop as a spare. What a waste. I'm not a fan of running different tread patterns but it seems silly to replace all four.

Anyone have a spare 215/40R17 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx lying around?
