RCD 310 Code?

Well... mixed news. I think. I may be more confused than ever!
Was told that the code is FREE - but that they code it in at the time of installation.
I asked if I sell it all the purchaser needs to do is have it installed by a VW dealer - the response was yes.

"We code the radio in the car normally . It only takes a few minutes . FOC .
The radio code can be supplied from VW Germany ,we need the number off the radio unit that starts with VWZ."

Make sense to anyone?

We use the vas to read the radio serial, then log onto vw germany to get the radio code.

I upgraded from RCD 310 to RCD 510 in my Jetta - when I asked for the code to the RCD 310 (they gave it back to me, I intended to sell it) they told me it did not need a code! Any truth to this rumour or am I now holding onto a very elaborate paperweight??!!

Is the RCD310 worth anything? If I upgrade, I planned to dump it in my misc box in the loft.

There's one on there now for a "buy it now" price of $350. Seller claims they "retail up to $1800". A popular line from "The Castle" comes to mind.....

for the rcd510 it was 4 numbers. im guessing the same for rcd310
