It IS a great movie, but once you've seen it.... it loses its appeal.,

now if that did offend someone because they haven't seen it, I plead my defence behind the Simpsons....they actaully used that line.

The Polo GTI didn't impress me one bit even though I was ready to sign the dotted line as I was in the market for a smallish fun daily.
I ended up buying the Clio RS200 as they were worlds apart, even the rear doors on the GTI couldn't entice me enough to make the switch. My heart was set on the Polo, but the head wouldn't allow me. Although the Polo is bang for your buck.

and maybe a lot of people do buy it? and being in WA, my copy didnt arrive til today

I have no problems in the results being discussed here, but decency and etiquette would suggest that if you are going to publish the results of something just released, you at least warn people before spilling the beans.

Good for you... I test drove a Clio RS200 a month or so ago and returned it after 10 mins. I honestly couldn't undertstand how anyone could live with it day to day... the ride was appalling. And at the price point the CLio RS (40K on road I was quoted with Sat Nav) is actually a GOlf GTI competitor in this country. NOt to mention closing Renault dealers in Sydney... it is not a car you buy with your head but with your heart.

Noted I own a Polo GTI, and had previously owned a track focused 172 RS Clio. If it was me purchasing for myself i would have brought the RS200 in a heartbeat. Nothing like a pure and focused car, with sublime brakes, and handling re: chassis setup to compliment the naturally aspirated 2lt. However its a car for the +1 and she needed 4 doors and an automatic in her mind anyhow. Chuffed about the Polo, it does what it needs to do with precision and with a certain German like refined style, though make no mistake it does not have the same devilish character the RS200 has. If i could have both in the same garage i'd be stoked, and if my commute each day to work was through the Black Spur, i'd be picking the keys to the RS200 all day everyday, however when it comes to a city commute then i'd be picking the RS200. Both have their place and both are exceptional motor vehicles, its just a real shame the RS200 is not as price competitive as the Polo GTi, given the low volume import numbers its understandable. It Renault Australia had the same volumes as VAG then it would be a different story.

Based on production capacities of the GTI, there's probably a greater availability of the RS200!

I drove both and yeah, the clio is a brilliant car but like has previously has been mentioned, could I live with it day to day? No. Not just because of the harsh ride, but other things too like the interior creaking after a hard drive for 3 days (like many a fast Ranault ) until it settles back down, the NVH is deplorable, the engine at highway speeds sounded like a swam of bees inside my brain and the interior, while the seats are brillinat, isn't anywhere near as nice a place to be compared to the Polo.

If I had the extra $10,000 when I bought the polo, would I have bought the Clio?.....

No chance, I would have bought a Golf GTI instead. If I had $15,000 though, RS Megane all the way

Exactly. The Megane is a bargain compared to the Clio. It must be the reason the Meganes are selling and the Clios are lanquishing in dealerships.

I serious think Renault should have imported the Clio RS WITHOUT the Cup suspension.
