  • DSG 7 1-2 Gear Kickdown

Tonight i was driving, was at about 20km/h in "D" and then pressed the accelerator all way down past the the kickdown trigger.

The DSG then changed down from 2nd to 1st, as the clutch engaged the engine revved to the cutout, and felt gutless doing it........then it changed into 2nd with a fairly harsh thud.......

i can understand the thud on upchange, but a DSG revving to the cutout then unchanging???????

also think the engine felt gutless as turbo boost is limited to protect transmission..........

Has anyone had this happen to them?????

Learn to drive the DSG mate. It's not 100% fool-proof. If this bugs you, go back to something with a real manual box.

Take your car into VW to get the DSG computer scanned for codes. Also, if you can reproduce the problem there and then that would help too.

If you can't reproduce the problem, then yeah I wouldn't worry too much about it.

More likely you hadn't given it anytime to build boost pressure.

The DSG has in-built torque protection software, 1st and 2nd in the GTI have this enabled, could be the reason you didn't feel and turbo rush. In regards to the thud, don't forget this is a manual gearbox and in D it opperates like a lazy human. If you replicated the exact same thing in the manual version, my thoughts would be exactly the same thing would happen....
