How to remove overhead console?

Hi

Does anyone know how to remove the overhead console in the new 6r without damaging the roof lining? I'm keen to have a look and see whether there's space for the mic from oem bluetooth kit.

Yes there is, that is where the OEM bluetooth microphone goes in it's specific recess (it has an in-fill piece you need to remove) and if you shoot me a PM with your email, I'll try and send some info through to you....

Hi, There is a rattle coming from where i think the last owner did a DIY on installing the mic in my Polo GTI 6R. I also would love that info so I can check it out. I don't have the alarm installed so there is no alarm sensor up there.

Sorry to revive an old thread, was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to convert the space in the overhead console into a sunglasses compartment?
I asked my dealer and he mentioned there's no part for it, but I figured it might exist somewhere.

I concur! The space does seem perfect for a sunglasses holder!

Yeah I started that thread and for the life of me can't imagine anyone out there that hasn't developed a compartment for it. I think I asked someone to see if the Golf console fits in. I have yet to compare but apparently it's not the same size.

I've taken the cap off and it's just a useless voided area, there must be a way to get something in there???

It would appear we share the same desires of this car...?

I swear it takes ages to become a custom to a new car, the first couple of days I had hatred on this car and wanted to sell it ASAP. Out of per laziness and lack of not selling my previous car I've been forced to get used to it. Each and every week I find something that I wish I could modifier (being so used to it before) or at least making it appeal to me so every time I got in it I would enjoy it.

To this day I'm still doing that but realistically I'm getting used to it and it's all becoming second nature. I for one though still believe that that overhead console should get some usage, it's just ridiculous that they would just let it by in concept development stages. "Oh there's a great spot for the sunglasses compartment" "nah I reckon it's better to leave it for nothing, make em buy a Golf for that"

And yep I did a rough measurement of the size difference between the MK6 Golf's and my Polo, and the Polo's cover is wider than the Golf's glasses holder by 1cm or so. I couldn't get the Golf's holder off so it was only a rough measurement with a tape measure though.

I haven't had the time, but i've got a hunch the space may be the same size as the Tiguan or Passat's glasses case

You know it might be worth me calling up tomorrow and speaking to someone in spare parts to see if the parts fit with any model of theres. If there nice enough I could pop over and test it out.

Rang up Volkswagen Service centre and they said that they will check for me and see if any other car fits in the Polo but off the top of their heads they said that it most likely wont. Kinda sucks really.

Hopefully get a call back today sometime.
