H&R Sport Springs 25/40mm for the current Polo GTI 6R

I'm sure there's a few of you who have purchased these springs already for their GTI. Can anyone tell me which is the correct version of the 25/40mm Sport Springs for the current GTI? I've done a search but not really finding the info.

Do I need to purchase the 929kg or 930kg?

930 was for diesel I think

According to the owner's manual (yes, funnily enought thay do contain information, not just fill that hole in the glovebox! ) GTI front unladen axle weight is 930 kgs.

Is there a reason why you aren't going with coilovers? Wouldnt the cost of install be much the same so it comes down to cost of spring vs coilovers?

For really cheap, low end coilovers yes (I wouldn't get either and would save up for a set of decent coilovers or cup kit).

The reason is simple... I don't want them. Cost is no issue to me as I can get them installed for nothing. I don't need to make the ride any more discomforting and coilovers will do that. I know coz I had them in my R33 skyline and hated it...never again. Where I drive to the folks in northern country Vic the roads are crap.

The H&R springs will affect the ride very little and lower the car just enough for my needs.

It's a misconception that coilovers are harsh. Don't know what coilovers you have on your R33, but I have had anything from Bilstein PSS9 to KW Clubsport, and I can tell you that even the KW Clubsport which is the most hardcore street suspension you can get from KW, is not harsh. I have a set of H&R monotube sitting in my garage waiting for install, so if you can wait till the 12th July (the first date I can get with Trutrack), I will let you know how they ride. I am expecting them to be ok and certainly get that impression from reading other VAG owners comments with H&R monotube...or at least I hope so given that the missus doesn't know and it's her car! Haha.

That's fair enough. I have driven in some bad country roads and I can see what you are saying. Something to consider though, is whether the H&R springs alone would be any better? I don't know the answer and certainly not an expert on changing springs only. I'll certainly keep you posted on what the H&R coilovers ride is like.

As for the receipt, if she finds it I'll say it was work done for the track car or one of the other cars lol.

Yeah i bought a set of the 35/55mm H&R Springs from Orange Tuning for my Polo Gti which is coming in a few weeks hopefully.
Funnily enough i used to have an R33 GTR with Tein coilovers which were exactly between street and race and i thought they were awesome.
(I live in the country about an hour east of Melbourne)
I considered coilovers for the gti but chose just springs as i'm fairly sure the suspension isn't half bad in the gti, just sits a little high and soft for my liking.
Not to mention that i got the springs for $240 landed and coilovers would have been about $1300-1400 landed which is still pretty good for coilovers but i think too much of a price difference and considering i'm not really going to track the car i figure springs will do just fine.
My brother is getting a hoist soon so will be doing the install myself

Yeah i got the 930kg ones. I just emailed to dude from Orange tuning saying i was after those springs and he sent me an invoice via paypal for like $170~ Euro's which work out about $240 AU from memory.

I noticed your sig says you have 225 tyres on your 7.5" wide wheels, do the tyres come out from the rim a bit? That sounds a little big to me?
Isn't Guy from APR running 215's on 8" wide wheels?

He quoted me today 189 Euro less the 25% discount, plus $45 postage which totals about AUD$316 delivered or thereabouts.

On the tyres, those 215 tyres are 45 series which allow more sidewall stretch for the 17x8 rim. I had a good a look at those tyres on the APR car from the mag review and they do look wider than 215, especially when I compare them to the look of my 225/35 on 18x7.5" rim.

My tyres actually fit those rims perfectly and are absolutely flush with the rim and sit under the guards nicely. If you think about it, the OEM rims are 17x7 with 215 tyre whereas my rims are only half inch wider with the slightly wider 225 tyre. A 235 tyre on 7.5 rim would be too much I'd think.

I have the 25/40 springs now as I originally installed the 35/55 and it was a bone jarring ride in the rear. I have a used set with only 1500kms on them if someone wants to buy them? You will need to fit the 929 kg as the 930kg are for the diesel the 25/40 ride firm but not too hard and there is still some body roll, I might fit some heavier sway bars later.
