  • Order cancelled by dealer.

A friend of mine has had a Polo GTI on order since January. The dealer called this afternoon to tell her that Volkswagen Germany have cancelled 15 cars, hers being one of them. No reason given!!! Bloody disgraceful. 6 months patiently waiting for your car to be told that.

It certainly wasn't without any alternative offer from the dealer, was it?

Agree for sure that something further to the story, most likely at VGA or dealer level. VAG wouldn't just cancel 15 build slots, even if they ran out of parts. They would be postponed and built at a later stage. My thought is that the dealer has made a mistake and forgotten to put the order in or they have exceeded their production allocation and have made an excuse. If it was VGA, possibly they have exceeded their allocations as they are basically an importer.

Research further because the factory wouldn't just cancel builds...

Well, these are all cheap shots, since the other party is not present. Your opinions are based on hearsay. Re-read the OP 1st post and have a good think about it.

I will admit that mine is a cheap shot but based on my experiances at both local levels of VW representatives, neither are that cheap because it's exaclty the kind of bull***** stunt that they would pull. Hell, up until the week my car arrived, VGA still told me adamantly that my car would not be built until week 18, they only said "oh yeah" once I, nobody else, told them that my car was actually in the middle of the indian ocean somewhere, this is my VIN and this is when it was loaded onto the vessel.

Makes me think that if it wasn't for me having that information, I wouldn't have gotten my car, they would have allocated it to someone else.

So yes, more details would be more informative and get rid of the hearsay which I have posted and fingers crossed for your friend that what I have written is wrong

I'm sorry to hear that gavs. (really do)

But, I can't put everybody in the same bag. Here in SA, I bought 4 VAG cars and once only I got the VIN at the time of contract, all of them arrived as promised except my T5, that was about 3 month late. Credit to my dealer (T5 was my first VW) he gave me a brand new T4 with 200km on the clock (the same day that I sold my Vito) to drive until my van arrived. It was fantastic! No rego, insurance and payment to pay for 3 months, hell it even had a full tank of diesel. After that, other 3 cars we bought, arrived on time and everything went smooth. It's truth, I didn't negotiate very hard but I didn't pay a full retail either. Not that I would believe it had anything to do with it. When we bought Tiguan last year, 2 weeks later we received $1000 check from the dealer, I don't know why and what for, but I guess, that he saw my lack of excitement at the time of delivery, because the side steps were not as they were in the brochure. So, I think that's why.

Not sure which dealer it is but may see her tomorrow so I'll find out then. Thanks Demot, what specs will your cars be? Hers was white with zenons and the audio upgrade. I'm sure she'd love the Golf but she doesn't want to spend any more than what she was paying for the Polo, however I will pass that on.

After reading the first post I spoke to my dealer in a slight state of panic.

I was assured that that my car is still due to dock Fremantle early September as expected, however he did mention that VW Australia was trying to push certain cars back to a December delivery! I don't know all the details (i tended to blank out after hearing everything was still ok) but he did say it took himself, and his manager having a heated conversation with VW Australia to make sure that the delivery date stood firm....

                          Time will tell I guess.

Surely if this issue is unfolding we'll all be hearing the stories and witness the following backlash...

If this is true at a VGA level, then it will be so they can bring their own cars in again for "walk ins" who haven't ordered yet, this is what they were doing last time.

The other option is that the dealership is telling you what you want to hear to keep you happy because they and VGA really have no idea when your car will be built. once again, example of mine:

Insistantly told that my car WILL be built in week 18 and expecting it any sooner was pointless because it wouldn't happen and it wasn't until I TOLD VGA that my car was actually already in the indian ocean during week 18 that they then admitted that yes, it was built. Even after I knew my VIN etc, they were still insisting week 18 build.

You want the truth? email the CEO of the whole VOlkswagen group like GTI JOE and I did, you won't get a direct reply from him but one of the relevant customer service (reading this VGA? Who would have thought that the Germans would actually understand "customer service" unlike you useless employees up there in Sydney!!!) representatives. If you provide them with your COMMS number (you can get this off your dealership...) then they can check the status of your order etc. Then, you will get a proper answer from the people who actually know.

VGA is just an importer under license of VAG, that is all they do. Clearly...
