Test driving the new GTI.......any luck finding one?

Called up Essendon VW & asked if there were any GTI's available for a test drive. Was bluntly told "Nup". I then asked when they knew when one might come in....again, bluntly told "12 months". Then asked so they don't expect many sales for the next year?........"Nup. Correct". & they didn't know if any other dealers had any.......

So, pretty useless phone call.......similar to one I made a couple of months ago...

Any others found one they've been able to score a test drive in recently??

Not much luck mate, most dealers have sold their demos. You might find the odd one in the country but there's only 1 way to find out....

Camberwell VW just sold their demo and have just taken delivery of a new black demo with alacantra/leatherette trim. Not sure when it will be available for test drive, but might be worth giving them a call.

Peninsula VW @ Frankston have a black one, just test drove it last Saturday before
placing our order.....dealt with Brent (GM), they seem like a pretty good bunch of
blokes.....time will tell

The sales guys dont really want to help out with their short answer.... sounds like they get a lot of calls for the GTi...haha

I have to say when I was shopping for my gti, and spoke to vw essendon, they were a "pack of ar#eholes" when it came to customer service. Swore i would never buy a car or deal with them again! Did not want to say anything until I read this thread and obviously I am not the only person who has found their service appalling.

Having said that I brought my gti from Horsham and it was well worth the drive!! Great friendly country service and a guaranteed vehicle.

when looking for my vr6, i was also thinking "what about something newer, even though i neeeeed a vr6" (my teenage years dream car). went to essendon and took a mk4 golf 2.0 for a baby-sat test drive down a residential side street with a million speed bumps, which told me nothing about the car.

got back to the dealership, and nodded at the second hand $18k mk4 gti in the lot and was told "that might be out of your price range" (based on me having looked at the 'cheaper' mk4 2.0 first).

go inside, dealer asks if i wanted to discuss placing a deposit. told him im still looking, but it gives me something to think about. he says something along the lines of "well, most people usually place a deposit after taking a test drive, because the cars are all approved and above board. next time, you might want to think about waiting until you're ready to place a deposit, before taking a test drive, as resources and time are limited".

What a tool! Although, I can say that I wasn't even offered a test drive, and actually refused after asking for one at my local dealer, as I told him I was researching a replacement car - not serious enough, I guess. Bought elsewhere.
