    Background:

Took GTI back to dealership for top up last Friday, level on lower 1/4 of dipstick. Did it in preparation for 6 weeks relocation to Charleville from Brisbane.

Drove to Toowoomba Sunday night and left the car in the carpark for 4 days, did not move it. Thursday night drive back to Brisbane, smelt burning oil in cabin about 1km from home. Popped bonnet and found oil filler cap missing and oil everywhere. S#%@.

    Hypothesis:
Top-up man did not secure filler cap -> cap fell off -> tears.

    Plan:
GTI to dealership first thing. Fingers crossed for getting car back (in pristine condition) before driving to Charleville.

    What a cool story.

    Sorry to hear.

I'll probably be right in saying there's nothing you can do here but accept that some dealerships just don't employ the right people. If you're just topping up next time, place the car on a flat surface, and top up yourself until its 1/2 - full on the dipstick.

+ 1 for me, there is not that many dealers in Brisbane and you'd hate to be serviced by the wrong one.

Although I was thinking of taking my car to an independant specialist here in Geebung/Virginia.

Austral VW near Breakfast creek. Hmm... Anyhow they cleaned it up and stuck a new bung on it. Labelled it as a "mystery". Just hope that not much damage was done. Driving off to Charleville now, 10 hours of fun in a westerly direction.
