  • Enough to make a grown man cry

Something to make all of you who are waiting for your GTIs to come in cry.

Coming back from dinner tonight and the guy in front of me inexplicably brakes.
My Brembos kick in and I stop about 50cm behind him.

Unfortunately the woman in her Mazda 323 behind me......

Considering the low supply of GTIs in Australia, how long before I can get a new bumper bar?

Maybe I should push for an aftermarket one?
Any suggestions? Maybe this is a cloud with a silver lining?

    Sorry to hear it mate.

But at least everyone's ok and it's really only a bumper. The first good car I had was my MKV Golf GTI which I had almost finish my upgrades on. I'd saved for a few years, and had it for only 4 months when the car was written off.... and you could no longer order any Golf GTI's at that point. I then had to wait 9 months for the release of the MK6 Golf GTI, at which point I thought stuff it, and waited for the R... 2 years later...

Anyway - be patient, it'll all be good

        Yep, just the bumper fortunately

No injuries to either party but I suspect my 5 yr old will come running into our bed at some stage tonight due to a nightmare

I always preach caution when assessing rear end accidents. Sometimes it looks like just a bumper but it can be alot more

A bit of bad luck there... Bumpers should be readily available. This is one of the unfortunate aspects of owning a Euro car. We can out brake plastic fantastic Jap cars easily. I have lost count the number of times I have had to brake for the idiot behind me.

It is in no way your fault this happened but next time, if you have the chance and it is safe, look into your rear view mirror and judge the distance behind you and adjust your braking so you won't hit the car in front and give the moron behind enough room to stop as well.

mate i reversed into a beam only after 5 days of having my polo. Its currently in the shop as we speak. Did 4 grand worth of damage - went through insurance, as they have to replace the boot lid, bumper + brackets and spraying of parts. My repairer said parts are easily and readily available. Dont worry too much. I know how you feel.

                          Man that sucks.

I find even with dead stock brakes, I usually have to ease off to give the person behind room to pull up, as VW brakes are just so good when used seriously.
