For those of you who don't have a free windscreen per year cover on your insurance policy please consider this:
1. The Pole windscreen is designated as a "restricted" part by VW. That means only certain windscreen businesses can buy them in after producing the VIN number of the damaged vehicle and after market glass is not available. It's VW genuine part only.
2. Cost of a standard (no rain sensor) screen fitted is $838 and price is the same wherever you go. Sensor screen was estimated by O'Briens to be an additional $1000.
3. Part supply is short (I just got the last one in Australia)
4. Extra premium on base insurance is about $49 PA (AAMI) to $89 PA (RACQ)
Unfortunately I chose not to take windscreen cover for the Polo as I "thought" a standard screen would be more reasonably priced. I am now having to claim on my comprehensive insurance and pay the $500 excess
