Well, you were a Volkswagen enthusiast until you changed to a Volkswagen fanatic. That's why they have a policy to not insure fanatics who border on lunies

Have found out the reason behind Shannon's and why they are so expensive too. You need to have a minimum amount of aftermarket modifications, which increase your premium too!

This is strange as I got a quote from Shannon's and they deemed me a motoring enthusiast based on the type of car I have (*edit* will be getting ) and the fact I have an account on a motoring enthusiast website! - I can assure you I am less of one than you are gavs

I'm insured, since Saturday, with NRMA Qld. With an excess of $600, my quote is for $430 - add $64 for windscreen insurance. Granted, I'm pushing 40, and live in QLD, but it's actually cheaper than the insurance I pay with them for my 2007 Mazda2!

I insisted with the guy on the phone that there must be some mistake, but he assured me there wasn't.

After reading all of the above, I just double checked on the website, and it is correct. (BTW, on the website, I did not get the quote with a Multiple Insurance discount)

Maybe there is (finally!) some advantage to living in QLD?

Wouldn't hurt to check with NRMA...

RoknRob I am a Queenslander also...I don't have my car yet but I got a quote through NRMA for about $640. The difference between you and me is that I am only 21! Definitely sounds like there is an advantage to living in QLD. Apart from the awesome weather, beaches, women...

I was insured with Shannons. Moved to AAMI after they shafted me.

I had a Opel *cough* Holden Calibra which was insured for a good price through them, they let me insure my partners car as the daily drive. 2 years later, when i bought my pog, they quoted $574 (!!!) which i very quickly accepted. 6 months later, they took more than double the amount out of my credit card. When i called to question it they told me that because i no longer have the Calibra, im no longer a car enthusiast, so i have to pay $1485.... ummm, ok then

Cancelled all three cars, and contents insurance, and moved over to AAMI ($1100)

Tell me, was your quote for the comprehensive or comprehensive Plus?

Very true mate, very true. I just dug the quote out which i printed off, normal comprehensive wa $678 with an $800 excess. Comprehensive plus was $905. Still far cheaper than quotes i got for a hsv vxr and a mazda 3 mps.

$850 with AAMI online in Melbourne (safe eastern suburb though). I'm 23 though... but I can do a one day driving safety course and get 10% off (some under 25's promotion they run).
