Don't get me wrong, that thing is ugly as sin, but it's more of a sleeper then the not quite as ugly, but still bloody ugly Polo GTI. Chip it, dump it, and watch it take on the older V8, then watch them wonder what the he'll it was... Until the DSG let's go...

+1
get GIAC onto it + coilies etc, and you've got a serious ass kicking sleeper.
thats what i must say i like about skoda - no one knows what the hell they are. your average falcodore driver would look at a fabia vrs and think "heh.... mercedes A180"
Can't see how much cheaper then a GTI a vRS can get to be honest. Fabia makes more sense the lower you go on spec though. Not a looker but then VWs off-springs are not exactly jaw dropping gorgeous these days, either. Fact is, the more options on the market the better, isn't it?
Why would you buy a Skoda vRS instead of a Golf GTI?
I just depends on how the car is packaged & what the street price is.
'Conservatively styled cabin doesn't match the sporty seats, nor this car's spicey driver appeal. The too-small price saving over the Polo may puzzle buyers still stymied by Skoda's fuddy-duddy past.'
Seriously, I don't think you could option this thing in any way to make it attractive in terms of either looks or price.
2011 Polo GTI - I have it, I Love It!!!!
Candy White 5 Door, Comfort Pack, Audio Pack - RCD 510, Bi-Xenons, Panoramic Sunroof
I'd be tempted to buy the Fabia rather than the GTi as it isn't trying to be a mini Golf (and falling short) but is being it's own thing (one of the charms of the 9N3 even though it looks rather dowdy).
And it'd tune up just like a Polo GTi and with coilovers to raise it close to the standard model height, no one would think that it was a performance car (except those who matter).
The pricing is odd, though, unless it has inclusions that are extras for the Polo
Resident grumpy old fart VW - Metallic Paint, Radial Tyres, Laminated Windscreen, Electric Windows, VW Alloy Wheels, Variable Geometry Exhaust Driven Supercharger, Direct Unit Fuel Injection, Adiabatic Ignition, MacPherson Struts front, Torsion Beam rear, Coil Springs, Hydraulic Dampers, Front Anti-Roll Bar, Disc Brakes, Bosch ECU, ABS
The Fabia is significantly cheaper than the Polo GTi in the UK
From what i can see the skoda gets alarm, 8 speakers, standard mdi, privacy glass. choice of different alloy wheels and coloured roof. larger selection of colours. 2 whites, red, black, silve, bright yellow, green and electric blue
I'm interested in the Fabia diesel wagon - I only started looking at the Polo because the Skoda Fabia wagon isn't available in Australia. Now I read that the Fabia will be launched at the Melbourne motor show - I'm very keen to have a look, though the reports so far are that the diesel and wagon won't be available at launch, but should come later...
