  • Me and the gf meet Detroit candy in the middle of traffic in docklands yesterday.

Was great chatting, we have virtually identical partners!

Also seen a white 77tsi with roof park at little Collins car park when I drove past.

Also red 77tsi with roof along Collins st most mornings (apples?), a white gti (nobby number plates) along Lonsdale st and white gti seen often along exhibition st on the way home!

But wait there's more! Seen a few p plater chicks and guys driving polos giving thumbs up too. Our community is just wonderful!

Ha! Met Fastlane in docklands traffic last friday arvo. We managed to have quite a bit of a chat about his very tastefully modified Gti.
I forgot where you said you got your windows tinted, if you see this can you reply on this thread or PM me?
      Cheers
      Rob
P.S. I mentioned our conversation to my GF when I got home, (BTW, she thought it was hilarious that she's said the same things regarding the allowable Polo mods) surprisingly she quite likes the DSG crackle on gearchange you get once the mid muffler is deleted, & said she would approve if I decide to go through with it & not bitch & moan about my car being too noisy. WIN!!!
The reason for all this 'under the thumb' behavior by my long term, live in, GF is that the Polo was supposed to be my 'sensible' daily car & I wasn't to 'tinker' (ruin), and I was to leave my other car as a play thing (money pit).
That went out the window when the said money pit still wasn't ready from the tuners by 10pm last friday night to drive to DECA in Shep for a motorkhana the following day.
Guess which car ended up getting a fire extinguisher bolted into it at 10.30pm & taken instead........
If only there was a prize for fasted FWD of the day, I would have won .( mind you I think it was the only FWD on the entry list).

Nah, that red 77tsi isn't me. I haven't driven to work in over 3 months. She sits in the garage most days now
I've seen quite a few red tsi with the sunroof, but mine's the only one so far with euro plates.

The white gti would be frostee....his number plates are actually NODDY (or NODDDY?)

            • My silver 77TSI has Euro plates as well, don't forget me. If you ever see a speeding silver polo w/sports pack in the eastern suburbs (Vermont, Wantirna, ringwood) with the plates (V JB 092) that's me! Also seen a few red polos w/sports pack up in Vermont and a few white GTI's heading to ringwood. (Gavs and one of the other guy that went on the cruse with the carbon fibre mirrors)

Your post has gained my attention, this type of post disturbs me.

Before you say "Speeding" allow yourself some time to read this and watch the video:

That's a MKVI GTI, food for thought. Speed kills especially on "public" roads.

If you would like to speed, throw your money at a track days. You may of just been using that word as it was the first thing that came to your mind.

Please don't take this as an attack on you or anything mate, I'm just a messenger passing on the message of "common sense"

                • Everybody speeds, it's inevitable to happen and impossible to prevent, especially at hills. I just let it coast down.

I Know what you are saying and everybody has their opinion to things so don't take anything personal from this but I find the term "speeding kills" to be way over publicised by the media and local government. Many counties that I have seen, been and driven in (mostly Northern Europe) emphasise driver skill and knowledge over enforcing speed.

Don't get me wrong doing 20km/h over the speed limit in residential streets I would say is quite inappropriate but then it comes to freeways I slam my baby in sport shove it round the on ramp and get it to about 150...and then I slow it down to the limit 'cos obviously I don't want a ticket now do I. But really I tend to do 3-5km/h above the limit in most streets just to keep up with the flow of traffic, not that I purposefully do it but if I sit dead on the limit people fly around me flashing lights and beeping horns. (I think my speedo is out about 5 km/h)

I unlike other inconsiderate people take off at the lights with haste so everybody behind me can get through as well. The freeways should be faster in my opinion, the autobahns are unlimited (in safe sections) and is what these cars are designed for

...But then again most people out there can't drive properly and don't know about keeping good stopping distance wet or dry / day or night, limits of their cars and even how to properly manage their lights (blinding Rear fog lights on the Hyundai Excels anyone? Or using front fogs instead of dipped beam)...so maybe that's not such a good idea.

But I can respect your concern and don't think of me as your common falcodore bogan doing burnouts while doing u-turns. No I never ever do stuff around other drivers and would call my driving style "highly spirited" when I'm driving for fun. In the morning and afternoon during the work run everybody drives like grandmas...

                  • Also that tragic crash on the great ocean road, there were underlying circumstances. Speed was a definite cause, but no skid marks? Either didn't have time to brake or didn't want to?

No idea, and with your reply I don't take offense to "information" just wanted to put forward my view

Also if Australian Authorities really wanted to reduce fatalities on our roads...then they should have a licensing test regime like Finland does (have to complete a rally drivers course).

                      • I couldn't agree more! If I ever have time I want to go to a defensive driving course and see how far I can really push my car and how to control it in various situations. When I went for my P's I found that not enough time was spent on proper car control but mostly what speed I was doing in the 40 zone.

Please point where they mention speed was a factor in this accident? I agree ppl have died on Great Ocean Road from speeding but there was no mention in this video.

I've seen a lot of stupid driving on this road over the years and I can tell you that most of them were below to speed limit and advised speed limit.
