love the mark 6 golf gti but go for it if you have the extra $$$$.Personally in adelaide with heavy traffic,i would enjoy the polo gti for a change.Lighter and swift and still plenty of change left over besides its a change for me after a mark 5gti.Maybe down the track later years might go back to a golf gti. Both cars great.
Will be fair to update the qualities of the polo gti built in spain when i get mine from the dealer sometime in later months.....but so far having a seat ibiza after 16 years and its still solid and runs like hell. Will run it to the ground one day.

The extra capacity of the Golf doesn't quite have the initial 'bite' of the 1.4 TSI does, and at 132kw V 155kw there's not a lot in it.
Then you should get a Golf TSI118, because that is essentially what the Polo GTI is minus the asthetics and xdl. Give it an ecu flash and you should be able to get from 0-100 in 7 secs or less I believe.
I did consider the Polo GTI but could not bear the wait time. However I went down the Golf GTI path and I am so glad I made that decision. Give that a stage 1 ECU flash and it will have ~400nm of torque and ~190kw of power.

I think lower weight played a part. And off idle torque. By the time we hit the twisties I was pulling away in tight corners and out braking the golf, but on straightaways he was catching. So pretty even but I think I had the margin.
I've never driven in a scenario like this but I've seen the Top Gear hill climbs which equate to a stock Polo GTI being about 2 seconds slower, albeit being a DSG. Golf GTI was a manual.

The driver of the MK6 GTI probably didn't even know he was in a race.

I just think a lot of golf gti owners can't get over the fact that it's baby brother polo gti is an equal car in real world driving performance and is $15k lighter on the wallet!

I guess they need some way to justify their "expensive" purchase

We should just leave the debate to the pro's to have a shoot out between the two. Hoping maybe top gear or fifth gear will do that one day.
I've just watched one video after doing a quick search on google. Not in english though. And...........yeah.......as expected.
The sub debate of the price is absolutely pointless because there are a lot of cars that aren't worth the extra 20-50K in terms of real life performance.

Partially true, but the debate is not pointless. This is why the vast majority of Polo GTI buyers want this car...BANG for BUCK!
......and this is why it's a no contest when compared to a Golf GTI...IMHO.
