  • 'IT' is coming....

    So, what is 'it'?

My new 2011 model GTi with comfort pack that's what.

Only have to wait till the end of May to get it to. Now I just have to hope that one turns up on a boat before then so I can get it earlier. Ho hum. 5mths isn't that bad - it took 7 mths for my Subaru to be delivered as it was a change of model designation, and I wanted the 3.0R just when they had shut the flat 6 production down for a while as there wasn't enough demand.

    Hey Brian,

I wouldn't hold your breath that it will be here by may, I was just told wednesday when I ordered mine (which was a canceled order and is apparently the first Australian GTi on order) that VW in Germany have designated the entire second quarter of the year a delivery free period, so don't expect to see the car until July at the earliest!

Sorry for the bad news mate,

NO NO NO! It WILL be here in May.

Seriously, it will get here when it gets here. When my order went it from the lease company, they were given a guaranteed landing date in Aus for the car that supposedly comes from VW Aus. I'll just have to wait and see I guess.

        Congrats on your order Gavs.
We are also seriously considering adding another GTI to our family and also keen on one with bi xenons, along with
a few other options.....had another test drive yesterday, power wise very impressive!
Boot capacity on the GTI is dismal (battery, toolbox, space saver spare) ho hum.... decisions, decisions

We were also told the same as you from one local dealership, except they also said that the ones coming through in July/Aug
were pretty much gone with allocated orders now and if we were to order soon we would probably be looking at a Nov/Dec delivery!
Just wondering which dealership you brought from as we are in the East as well?

I went through Bayford in Epping due to speaking to their commercial vehicle rep (who is on the forum) about the amarok through my work. He told me that they already had a car on order due to another forum member having an unpleasant experience and canceling his order (my experience was vastly different for the record!) so if I wanted it,it was the first in the queue as to the best of their knowledge, the only thin is that it had the audio option which has cost me another $770 for something I didn't really want, but it gets me the car up to 6 months earlier,so that seems a pretty good trade off to me

Thanks, we got the info from FTG
Believe I know who you are talking about at Epping, as he delivered a new VW Transporter to my work and we got talking about the Polo and this forum.
            Small world as they say....
Shame you couldn't have twisted his arm a bit more and got him to throw in the audio option for you taking the Polo off their hands! hehe
Seriously though, you will get to enjoy your ride 6 mths earlier and have a nice touch screen to boot.....after a few days you will completely forget about the extra $770.
As for us......I don't know how or even “if" we can wait 11 - 12 mths for one!
Pleased you had a good experience with this dealership BTW
Will look forward to hearing your thoughts once you get the pocket rocket

What? Why would they want to _not_ sell cars?

They are still taking orders for the cars, I don't fully understand the deal but i believe it has to do with production scheduling for RHD versions of the polo. Don't forget, our yearly consumption of these vehicles is likely to be close to 2, if not 1 months worth in Europe! Unfortunately, VAG are in the business of making money,as are all businesses, so they will supply products to areas that give them the biggest cash return. Meanwhile, I'll keep hanging out to take my first spirited run through the spurs

dropped into the dealer who's delivering the car and asked for some information about delivery, and mentioned the discussion here. The word was that there ARE cars being made for Aus for stock and they expect 2 this month, 3 in Feb and 3 to 5 up till May. As they are VW Aus orders, they were able to be modified prior to production starting. So, instead of having 'stock' cars people can walk in off the street and buy, they are making mods to the spec so customers can have their car sooner. He then went on to say that the latest from VW they have today is that all orders for 1st quarter production are finalised and orders from now on will probably be delivered in August or later.

My order made it into the system in time for the May delivery, and as it's white with the comfort pack, they may get it earlier from a 'stock' build, but best date for that was still April.

Guess I'll find out soon enough, May is not that far away now - I mean, it's nearly Easter already as Woolworths are selling hot cross buns today...

My experience concurs with this - ordered Dec 30th and the dealer is using a Week 9 of 2011 slot they had for my car and modifying the spec to suit. Annoyingly delivery/logistics from South Africa take 12-15 weeks. Seems like a long time as I've had cars built and delivered from Europe (Peugeots) in less time. If I'd wanted no options I'd have a car now.

I was going to say, how come yours is coming quicker, then I noticed yours is a comfortline model, hence why South Africa!
Apparently the 3 door GTi comes out of Spain and 5 door out of Germany, not sure on that though...

Had some for lunch. Yumm! (Hot cross buns, not GTi's, that would be difficult)

I don't really care what mine comes from, as long as I get it on time! Actually.... From the problems with the last model Golf from there, I'll be happy if the 5door GTi is Geman made - the new Golf is nicely put together.

Me too, from experience at work, D40 navaras from spain are built so badly, we had to redesign the frontal protection to meet all the variation in their manufacturing tolerances!!
I'd much rather pay $2k more for a German built car!!
