Camberwell also have a 5 door, I was the first person to drive it after it came off the truck this afternoon. It handles beautifully, in my opinion it has a better feel than the Golf GTI.

LOL they did? I guess I was so engrossed taking delivery of my R, I forgot to look/ask. I was keen to check it out, though a bit early to upgrade her car.

naturally different dealerships have different policies, sounds pretty silly to me if you want to sell cars, I certainly wouldn't buy one without driving it first....

i think while you are driving that car it will sell for itself. such a good car to drive and enjoy it.

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and also VW.

My current car is a Mini Cooper S Cabrio and the time has come to change it over. I really couldn't justify spending the $55-60K I'd need to replace it with the spec that I would like as I only drive it to and from work and a bit of running around on the weekends. I was looking for something sub $40K but fun to drive, well put together etc.

So I found the Polo GTI and was hanging out to try one. I took a test drive yesterday and loved it from the moment I sat in it. What a lovely little car and in my opinion excellent value.

I paid my deposit there and then and manage to get a car already on order with the spec I wanted and have a current delivery date of 1st April. I'll get a firmer date in the next couple of weeks. This will be a tortuous wait, but I know will be worth it!

I test drove a 3Dr Polo GTI today. While I was impressed with the fit and finish, I was disappointed by the drive. As reported by Autocar.co.uk many months ago, the new Polo GTI isn't fun to drive. Like it's Golf GTI counterpart, the new Polo GTI lacks the fun factor and soul of it's predessor with the 1.8 turbo engine.

I own a GT with the same 1.4 TSI twin charged engine (with less power - 125kw) but the two cars couldn't be more different. The new Polo GTI power delivery is linear but once it hit 120km/hr or 4000RPM, the engine was clearly straining and felt gutless (tested with 3 people in the car and travelling at 120km/h up a 30-35deg incline). This is so unlike my GT on the same course, which still has (a lot) more to give past 5000RPM and doesn't sound like it's straining it's guts out. The other criticism is that boot is rather shallow, it has less space than the 77TSI version.

Otherwise, the new Polo GTI feels planted and the interior is streets ahead of it's predecessor (I espcially like the GTI flat bottomed steering wheel). I really wanted to like this car because on paper, it sounds like it should be a rocket and really exciting to drive, but it just didn't do it for me. The Autocar.co.uk review of the car was spot on in their assessment of it.

If I was a current owner of the previous gen Polo GTI, I would not be trading it in for the new one if fun was high on the list of requirements. The new Polo GTI is a very good car but not a great one.
