Go with the polo, we got the 1.2L petrol DSG with comfort pack after taking that and a diesel for a test drive, couldn't notice any difference power wise but noise wise the 1.2L petrol was so much quieter than the diesel.

Feature wise I am not really sure what other car compares to it, we skipped on the Mazda's and the only other car we considered buying was a Toyota Corolla but it was just full of nasty looking plastic. I installed an RNS-510 and 730c Bluetooth kit into the polo for $1300 (new) so there's nothing really out there that matches it feature wise or for the quality.

If I was to fault anything it might be the DSG, it does take a while to get used to and sometimes it just gets a bit confused but 98% of the time it operates how you would expect it to. Biggest issue with the DSG is the delay on take off, it's much longer than my golf R 6 speed DSG box and it can catch you out.

That has been the missus issue as well. She's learnt to manage now but early on, she almost got wiped out a few times turning into traffic etc. I have had it myself but I usually stick it in S and don't notice it hehe.

I think people are forgetting this as one of the requirements

It needs to be cheap, and it has to be the DSG.
A polo 1.2TSI with DSG is not going to be cheap on the road.

        Polo 77TSI Comfortline 5 Door 7 Speed DSG$25,321.00*

Add metallic paint and comfort pack and you are north of 26K.

But he already said he's considering the 77TSI and DSG so I'm sure he knows what they cost.

A DSG 77TSI with comfort pack and metallic paint can be done for ~$25k, go white and $24500 should be doable easy enough. Whether that is cheap enough by Rex's requirements is another question.

Then they might as well look at the 1.4L with DSG not much a big difference bar a few lil tweaks in the interior etc.

But i guess at least they can get the RNS 510.

If your near Chatswood or Parra talk to either Tony Grgic (Sales Manager at Chatswood) or Carmen Minovski (Sales at Parramatta) Tony would be the better bet, first discuss build slots if your interested he can usually sneak in a priority slot like he did with my car.

In Perth where there's more taxes to pay on new cars (nice huh) we picked up the car drive away for $24k, that's with the comfort pack, rear parking sensors and floor mats. $1300 more for RNS-510 and 730c bluetooth installed by me so a total of $25300.

I would consider the Honda Jazz.

I recently drove one fot the first time, and was VERY impressed with it.

A massive improvement over the previous Polo, but then so is the new Polo.

For reliability,I would also pop into your local Toyota dealership, and test drive a Corolla.

You lost me there, I can't believe how much they're asking for them these days and how little you get. They make an original Excel look like a quality item!

if she is an accountant, then the only thing u need to know is toyota or honda. arguably the best for reliability and much cheaper to run than a vw.

the jazz is good (i convinced my mate to get one, after going around, test driving cars with him), but the interior finish is pretty crap house. i mean..... cut up double-mesh basketball jerseys lining the door trim? lol.

and yet, then again, ALL THREE rear head rests push down flat, so that rearward visibility is... well, the best in its class.

when i daydream, i DO think of getting a jazz as a daily driver.... they're a great car.

but, to me, brand loyalty notwithstanding, i'd go a new polo, if we werent pinching hundreds of dollars... the interior refinement, and that 1.2 tsi...... they're gold. oh.... and the heavy, solid ''thud'' you get from closing the door of a micro VW.

I like the Jazz as well but the 1.3L Jazz has no go whatsoever which leaves only the 1.5L Jazz as a viable choice. And the difference in price between the 1.5L Jazz and a similar spec Polo isn't that great...so I'd go with the Polo too.

Have a look on here for discounts on new cars

Honda Jazz is still without ESP until 2011 models I think. Anyone who lets a relative buy a new car WITHOUT ESP has rocks in their head.
