The genuine sensors require a whole new bumper skin which has the sensor mounts molded into the back skin. Then the factory sensors clip in from the back and everything sits flush on the bumper skin.

If you have the factory sensors they can also be programmed to allow for having a towbar (so the sensors dont go off every time you reverse because they are picking up the towball signal).

The towbar fitment itself is expensive because it requires a module and special harness as well to integrate all the extra load from the extra tail lights etc into the vehicle electronics. The factory harness would also turn off the rear fog light in the car automatically once you plug it in.

That price even sounds excessive for VW Australia.
Graeme86; do you have any ideas where I could get the part number for the proper part your were mentioning? If I can try to get another quote from the dealer.

Thanks for the information; I knew there would be something available as Billecartz and others who got one of the first 100 had the option, so I can't see why you couldn't buy it as they would need spares for repair and replacement you would think.

They list a few different bumpers, with and without towbar option and with and without sensors (and there are also different bumpers depending on licence plate size). You would have to confirm which one fits yours from your VIN/option codes fitted. I believe in the Polos case the bumper for the sensors just has a proper hole pre-drilled. So you might get away with drilling out your bumper carefully with a step drill - there would hopefully be a mark on the inner skin where the holes go. They have to be in the exact location for the mounts to glue on properly as they are shaped to the curve of the bumper skin.

It looks like the sensor mounts are actually glued to the back possibly as there are some mounting parts listed below for the sensor to mount into.

So these should be the parts (confirm with dealer).

          4 x Sensors 3C0919275SGRU - require painting
          (4 x O-ring seal 1T0919133C9B9 - may come with sensor anyway)
          1 x bracket - left outer 6R0919491D
          1 x bracket - left inner 6R0919491E
          1 x bracket - right inner 6R0919492E
          1 x bracket - right outer 6R0919492D

1 x control unit 6R0919475 - will integrate with vehicle electronics properly
1 x bracket for control unit 6R0971362B - also holds factory trailer module if fitted
          1 x buzzer 8E0919279
2 x split rivets N0385051 to mount buzzer to bracket

1 x wiring harness for rear bumper park sensors 6R0971065

May also require these extra parts to mount module:
          1 x base 867955499
          4 x split rivet N0385051

Again, you will need to see whats inside your bumper at the moment - especially whether there are any markings in the proper spot.

I would just order one of the mounting brackets, say - left outer 6R0919491D - just to see what you actually are getting and go from there. If its just a flat adhesive bracket that doesn't clip into something on the inner skin then you would be good to go getting some holes drilled yourself into existing bumper. They have to be pretty exact as well so everything is tight - the sensors are actually slightly tapered where they go through the bumper skin (or at least the O-ring is) so the hole has to be drilled from inside.

          Good luck.

(This is how I am trying to mount sensors in my R32 - that's why I have researched all this stuff before.)

You mean the ABT rear diffuser? the kit is the exact same as the one from the ABT website with the Exhaust centering with Catback, Diffuser (depends on colour or choice you make) with instal priced at $1890 cash

The negetive side to this is that i have to wait til they bring a shipment in at March (saved a lot of dough) oh well, i at least have the choice to pull out if CCC get back to me with the pricing of the GTI rear bumper as the part i ordered is on back order

                Gday Graeme

On Our tdi there are markings for where the genuine sensors should mount to the back of the bumper, they are moulded centre marks only (no clip in moulding just markings) when they put our so called genuine kit in they didnt even use these markings I have a photo showing where ours are mounted and the marking below it to the side would like to share this to clarify but dont know how to post photos (any tips?),

The marking is definately where the guys with the factory fitted sensors have theres mounted, the position is identical to the photos ive seen of the factory mounted kit, (externallay only)

If anyone gets a quote for this true kit please post it here so noone else gets ripped with the other so called genuine vw cobra kit (ours vw genuine? cobra cost $761 dealer fitted = major rip off, personally think its only worth about $150 max fitted)

Ps: if anyone has pics of the factory fitted version from behind the bumper could please post them to clarify so we can see how they actually mount them and what they look like.

                Regards

I believe it also depends on whether you have a DSG or Manual and which petrol motor you have, (different weights) although the diesel most definatly would require the heavy dutys being a heavier motor,

Billecartz, If you dont mind me asking which springs did you remove and what did you replace them with? and why? what did you find to be the difference? (hight, compliance, ride, handleing etc)

There is no "factory fit" kit, you need to buy all the parts I listed separately and install them (or tick the option box when you order the car)

The stock mounts in your case are just a socket shaped piece of plastic which the sensor slides into, then there is a flat "rosette" on one end which just sticks to the inner skin of the bumper.

Have a look at the pics on this thread:

                          VWVortex.com - Hi-Def / R-GT Front Fascia Install w/ MANY Photos

This has some great pics on how the factory sensors mount (not a Polo but exactly the same setup)

If your bumper is already drilled now, then the holes for your sensors are probably bigger than the stock sensor holes, so if you want to put in the factory kit you may now be up for a new bumper skin as well

                          • Have Cancelled my order for the ABT Exhaust and rear diffuser, just coped a sniff from a relative who is in management of NRMA and these floods up in QLD will start to effect home and contents insurance, car insurance, green slips etc.

So im pulling all plugs on upgrades or mods until the full backlash and the cost associated to all this damage will do to mine and everyone else;s hip pocket.

My advice is unless you really need it or you have squillions to splash around be-careful as these floods could cause an effect from simple things as food to our luxuries.

                            • It will only affect them to a certain extent... once the damage bill gets too much, the "re-insurance" is enacted (that's the insurance for the insurance companies) so it covers the insurance companies and helps prevent too much of an impact to consumers. Hence why each time there is a national disaster (fires/floods in vic in the past few years, hail storms in syd, melb, perth, over the past few years too), insurance premiums don't really go up too much.

                              • I did some research at the dealership today on options I thought I would share; and ask for feedback:

                                Rear Parking Sensors
The dealership I am dealing with installs a system by AutoTecnica by standard; not sure what the others do. I got a quote on the parts mentioned by Graeme earlier in this thread; that came in at $1200 for parts and then you had to add labour on top and they could not guarantee it would work like the factory fitted sensors. However, I found a part number for the genuine part which they hadn't installed before at the dealership called 'Park distance control - rear' [Part Number 6R0054630B]. The big question is does anyone have a friend in VW who could find out the details of this part and whether it can be connected to show an image on the RCD510?

[Edit: I found this info on a website, still no information on whether it connects to the RCD510 - Rear Parking Aid Kit, Polo V (A05-6R) 2009 >, Risk-free and easy manoeuvring in reverse gear: This is achieved by the retrofitting of an original Volkswagen Park Distance Control. Four harmonised sensors integrated in the bumper detect all obstacles. An acoustic warning signal helps the driver to avoid collisions. The system is fitted with an intelligent setup function so that, for example, a tow-bar is not incorrectly identified as an obstacle.]

                                Bluetooth
The dealership advised that the premium bluetooth option [Not the one with the additional screen that sits on the dash, the one that allows you to dial via the RCD510] will not fit in the Polo; and it does not work with iPhones as apparently they do not allow remote dialling [Something to do with the SIM card]. Can anyone confirm this?

                                Underseat Drawers
Apparently you can order underseat drawers; the part numbers are: Frame - 6Q08825999B9; Drawer - 6R0882601C82V; Glide Piece - 6Q0881203; Socket HD Bolt - N90918701. Its expensive at $132 per seat, but it is going to make my wife very happy as this was the thing that sold her the car when we test drove it; it wasn't pretty when we were told that it was only available on the first 100 cars.
