  • GTI Ordered

After much initial deliberation, I've just put in an order for a New Polo GTI 5 door manual in black.

Given pricing and info has not been released, my offer is subject to being happy with the driveaway price, the car being a 5 door black manual, etc, but at least I'll be in line for something from the first batch (dealer is saying October/November)

If I find I'm not happy with the price or specs, I'll be changing my order over to a 77TSI manual (also a great car)

Bring on the GTI announcement in October!

PS, maybe we can get this thread made as a sticky for future GTI orders and delivery info?

umm, you've referred to it being manual?? The polo's are going to be DSG only at least initially.

True guys, however the dealer seems to think manual will be an option straight off the bat (that being true I don't know).

If DSG is the only option, and the price comes in at what I'm willing to pay, I'll get it.

If the manual is announced, I'm in line for that.

I'm not sure where your dealer is getting the information, but Volkswagen has told the overseas press for the launch of the Polo GTI that the manual is not a possibility as it won't fit in the chassis in combination with that engine.....

            Thanks for the info guys.

I was hoping for a manual, but DSG is also very very good.

The way I see it is that if manual is announced, I'm in line for one. If not, I'm still in line for a DSG
And if when everything is announced, I don't like the price or options, I'll change over to a 77TSI.

These are great cars either way and can't wait to be driving one!

Good luck, bttt. Look forward to pics & your opinion of the GTI if all goes well.

Also, I don't think it comes in a 5 door (in Aus anyway). How sure was the salesman about this?

So the DSG box is smaller than a manual box.
                Hard to believe.

It's not necessarily that it's smaller as such (although it could be, it's not like I have the engineering diagrams from both), but since the DSG is basically two manual gearboxes strapped together, one 'gearbox' having half the gears, the 'second gearbox' having the other half of the gears, arranged sorta side-by-side so they use the same output shaft, it's maybe not as long as the manual.

(sorry, I do actually have some engineering details on the 6sp DSG, but not the newer 7sp DSG, nor the 6 speed manual used in the Polo).

                    Thanks mate.

Sales staff were pretty sure a 5 door option will be made avaliable. Articles I've found online seem to state the same thing.

All I know is that if I'd comitted to a 77TSI now, then the GTI is announced and everything lines up, I'd be annoyed haha (although as I said, I still think the 77TSI is a great car and I would/could end up owning one)

                    So time will tell!

Oh ignore Ralfi's comment. The 5 door in Australia is guaranteed - it's the VGA strategy and it represents over 90% of the Australian market. What is not guaranteed is the 3 door GTI !!!

Sorry, your post is a bit hard to understand... so I'll say it once more:

The new Polo GTI in Australia will be:
                          5 Door DSG only

                          That's it.
It is not available anywhere in the world in a manual. Plus, although overseas markets may get the 3 door, since that is such an unpopular option in Australia, Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA) have said they have no plans for any further 3 door models for this country.

I don't really care what some sales person has said, this is what Volkswagen (Germany) have said re the manual, and VGA spokes man Karl G has said in relation to the 3 door. I'm pretty sure they're a better source than a saleman who is yet to receive any specifications from VGA.

Wow. Thanks for the info. Surprising. So when you say 3drs are unpopular, I guess that's taken from the Golfs 3dr sales figures as the Polo GTI was only in a 3dr up to this point in time?

Can't remember seeing the new Polo GTI in a 5dr, so maybe this is why I was leaning toward 3dr only here.

Yeah, VGA would be looking at the Golf GTI and the Golf R32 3 door vs 5 door figures. But it's not just an issue with VW. If you look at all the other car manufacturers in Australia, many do not bring their 3 door models, or have stopped.
