as a result, the poor dudes at vw service desks are having to pick up the pieces. think theres a chance that they will get their act together over there?

You can't blame where the car is made, it's the fundamental design and engineering decisions made at head office. After all, the Mk6 Golf GTI is made in germany and they're also having their fair share of problems.... You get the right factory in China and if you instill the proper quality control proceedures and SOPs etc, you will have a better factory than one in Germany. I can already hear you all saying bulls**t, but think about it. In China, there is almost a never ending supply of people to take your job so you HAVE to perform, in Germany, you and your mates don't perform, nothing much will happen untill a suitable replacement is found, or the whole operation moves off-shore....

      • I noticed being a passenger in the missus 77TSI with windows down that the DSG is bloody noisy at low speed/take off. Guessing its the dry clutch setup as my R's DSG doesn't do it. Don't think its a fault though

Not a fault, thats just the DSG for our particular model mate.

          • Yeah I figured as much since the R has wet clutch setup, probably should have put in an observations thread rather than the problems one hehe

            • You've GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!

So my 3 week old Polo GTI, which I waited 8 months for, is now off the road for at least 3-4 weeks. Turns out my check engine light is actually a fault in the Brake Vacuum Pump and it needs to be replaced. There are NO parts in Australia so it's coming from Singapore and given the Christmas period, it could be even longer.

To make the situation, VW Barloworld doesn't have a loan car for me until the 3rd week of January.

Things are about to get very very nasty........

Inform Barlowworld that possibly you should be given a Demo car from them or a test car.

Lets face it, who is going to go in for a test drive during the Xmas/New Year period...no one, except test pilots...yawn.

Its a shame to hear this 3 weeks old and that happens

I'd have a good word with them, they have a yard full of cars.

When the 77TSI had what turned out to be a faulty wastegate actuator and was going into limp mode, they said the same thing. I calmly explained that the missus was sick of the constant issues with the car and ready to drive it through the dealership. Within 15mins, they called back and ended up giving her a Polo TDI from the showroom/demo stock (had a couple 100kms on the clock). She had it for almost a week too.

Unlucky mate and probably why I'll be buying a Toyaburu instead.

                    • I picked up my 5 door GTI a few weeks ago and just hit 1000km. Overall happy with it, but a few little issues.

Rattle occurs under loaded throttle, seems to be emminating directly behind the centre dash air vents.
My car has developed the exact same rattle at about 800Km in. Bloody annoying. Good to hear it sounds like a straightforward fix.

I've got a couple questions which I'd appreciate feedback on:
                      - I've found that when accelerating from a standstill, it doesnt take off straightaway. It kind of hesitates for bit then goes. Its probably less than a second but is a little annoying. Is this normal with a DSG gearbox, or could it require a software upgrade?

                      - Another thing, is it normal for the air recycling to turn off when the car is off? (seems to be intermittent) Its a little annoying as I dont always realise until I'm in traffic and all the fumes are flowing in

                      - There is a buzzing noise when accelerating from the engine. If I take my foot of the accelerator, it stops. Doesnt always happen but more often than not.

                      Thanks

                      • 1) Normal, try to remember you're not driving a car with an automatic gearbox. In D especially, remember that the car has released the clutch and dropped back to neutral. Notice that when in M or S, the engine is idling higher, anticipating a quicker get away with the rpms up, gear selected and awaiting clutch engagement to launch. Think of D like you're in a normal manual with your foot on the brake and the car in neutral. To take off, you need to press the clutch pedal in, select your gear, transfer your right foot to the throttle, give enough rpms and clutch slip to allow the car to take off while pulling your left foot of the clutch pedal. If you're on even a slight slope, there is also hill-hold to contend with to stop you rolling when you release the brake pedal.

                        2) Yes, it's normal. You could always get your dealership to do a diagnostics check for you in case the software isn't up to date. The same goes for if you have the aircon set to "LO"-18.5 I think, even on auto, once you switch the car off the computer resets and it will default to 22 degrees, A/C on and no recirculation.

                        3) I don't know about the buzzing but this could be a similar issue on boost that dav had which resulted in a new turbo if it happens from 3000rpm on, otherwise this could be related to the noise generator under the dash.

My aircon remembers the settings - auto or manual. It keeps the same temp. Air on or air off - it resumes next time I turn the key.

I dont have automatic climate control. Just the basic fan speed (1,2,3,4) I suspect there's nothing that can be done but just wanted to check..

                            Thanks again..

My Work's Caddys and Transporter seem to do the same and so does my Sisters 320i E90. Maybe euro's really like fresh air/fumes?
