Easy, fill all four tires to 36 PSI drive around and if it happens again take it to your local tire shop preferably Bridgestone / Beau Repairs as you may have a nail / puncture that may need plugging

No what I think he is getting at is that when the TPMS is set off it just says "check tyres". Now considering the computer gets its info from the sensors in the wheels it should be able to say "check front left wheel" or somthing like that.

I have the indirect TPMS and when that trips a fault in VCDS it has the same fault - though the way the system works it should be able to alert you to which wheel is low.

      • Thought i'd log what's going on with my Polo, as this is a 'Register'

        1. Drivers door has stopped unlocking, forcing me to crawl over the passenger seat to enter my drivers seat.

        2. Door seal leaking during the rain... VW could not replicate the problem (100mm of rain) so that it couldn't be fixed.

Dropped it off at VW today, my car stayed there from 7.30am, I rung at about 2pm to see how it was going, even though I was told i'd be receiving a call as soon as a verdict was made. "We have nailed it down to the mechanical or electronic failure of the driver door lock and it needs replacing."

        I responded, "Well replace it?"

The tech replied, "The part won't be here until the New Year"

I haven't picked up my car yet, I'm sitting at work very very frustrated at the fact I'm forced to crawl through my lovely clean car to drive it...........

This is Holden all over again.

Same issue here. My drivers door was leaking during all the heavy rain that we've had. I'm going to call the stealership and book it for a warranty job, tomorrow.

Good to know that I'm not the only one with a leaky drivers door seal.

No sensors in the wheels. It uses the abs sensor to determine difference in wheel speed. When the pressure In a wheel drops about 8psi its enough of a difference in circumference to detect and it flicks the light on. So it's not stand alone and would take them more time and money to write in the programming to display which wheels flat. Hence the cheap light system.

Interesting. I've driven a Tahoe with an actual pressure sensor, which not only told me which tyre, but gave me the pressure readout so when I saw it dropping over a few Ks I knew it was serious.

As for ABS sensor info - I would still imagine that the car knows "wheel x" has a different circumference. Knowing which tyre is causing an issue is a lot easier than filling the tyres to recommended pressure, driving for a while, seeing a light, and checking all 4 sensors again.
As it turns out I had a nail in my back left. BUT since I had a tyre-pump connection issue with the front left, it may be another few drives before I find out if I have a similar leak there.

The abs system does no which wheel is different it's just vw saving money by not writing it into the program for the mdf to show you which one. Remember there different systems linked by one box that allows them to ask for info of each other. the dash can't ask the abs a question it doesn't know how to ask it

I'm pretty sure Gavs has with his tuned engine as well. He broke traction in wet weather, it over revved and cut the cylinder and displayed the fault code misfire and cyl deactivation. Could also be that oil is fowling the plugs...

Mine was traction control related as I have been able to replicate it again for purely scientific purposes, of course mine was on 3 out of the 4 cylinders too from memory...

When i lived in melbourne and got the tune, my car continuously went into limp mode(early 2012) and apr had to do a specific file just for my car for the stage 1 tune.It stopped the limp mode but the engine light still comes on every now and then, just reset it with the tune.Car runs fine and has been like this for 30 000km.
I assume thats what u get for living in darwin now as no one will go near vws up here except for a cat back exhaust that i got.Just when i upgrade to an Mk7R i would like the problem fixed

Mine had nothing to do with the tune whatsoever, mine was because it was pouring rain and for a laugh I thought I'd do a 0-100kph time. The traction control and subsequent gearchange during the run caused the engine to miss-fire too many times and it logged the fault code. Turned off and on again, no check engine light, no miss-fires and it was all good once i cleared the error codes.

For the record, 6.9 seconds with a Viezu stage 2 tune in torrential rain
