Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo 6C: doors felt noise (creaking)

    Hello boys !

I'm currently the owner of a Polo 6C from 2014 (June) with a 1.2 TSI engine (manual gearbox) in Cup finition.
It's a special on based on "Confortline".

Few months ago I decided to clean up the felt on my door and the rubber seals too.
I take an APC diluted at 1/4 and take a brush to clean.

I remove the excess with a microfiber.

When I took the car I was scared by the ammount of creaking noise. The impression of driving a 50 years old car.

I made some research and apparently it's a common issue on Golf MK 6 and MK 7 and Polo of the same year.
Creaking noises appears for no reason. For me I think APC is the cause.

Then I decided to clean up the rubber (I tough It was them and not the felt) with alcool (95°) and rince them with water and dry them with a micro fiber.
After I applied the rubber care of VW on rubber seals: 000096310B

    Creaking noises still present.

I decided to treat the felt with this product. Creaking noises were eliminated at 95% I was quite happy.
But they came back few days later.

Today I deciced to clean up the felt to remove the APC and the rubber care product.
Hot water in spray, I brush them with a soft brush and rince with water anb a microfiber.

I did this only on the driver's side door to test different method.

I will try the Gummi Pflege. If the water cleaning solution will not work.

Other people talk about the Krytox (VW reference: G052172M2 // G052172A2)

Does anyone have an opinion ?

This is the stuff I used on my Mk7 Golf. Spray on some cloth and wiped around the rubber seals and also were the seal touched the paint...worked a treat.

Applied it about 10 months ago and it is still quiet, I plan on doing it again in December when the next service is due.

You can try lubricating the door seals with something like Krytox 105.
