Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Auto Wipers

My MY16 140 Highline TDI supposably have auto wipers and I can also find in the settings where I can turn it on or off. However, the wiper does seem to come on automatically when raining or even when I put my garden hose on it while the car is idling. And the wiper stalk does seem to have an Auto setting. Does this mean my car don't have auto wipers? Or should I take it to the dealer for a check up?

Wiper stalk should be one up from off position, well that's the usual case.

The vehicle is equipped with a "rain sensor".

"Auto wipers" is a commonly used term, and I'm not criticizing you for using it, but its a misnomer.

Think of the system more like "auto intermittent". The most reliable way to use any of these "auto wiper" system is to activate the wipers when needed, turn them off when not.
      Cheers

Adelbaran, you do have AUTO Wipers.

        Wiper stalk in INT position.
        Press "CAR" button on media.
        Press "setup" button.
        Press "Mirrors & Wipers"
Tick Box in "Automatic wiping in rain"

Do your AUTO headlights work when in the "AUTO" position?

If this does not work, you have an issue!

Hi, thanks for above. Got it working. But I still find it silly to have to leave the wiper stalk in Intermittent all the time in order for it to work.

I have mine disabled, this is one thing I want to be able to do manually when I think it's required.

you can setup rear wiper automatic too, not just when in reverse but it works off the rain sensor.
