Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg

I’m on the scope for a second hand one. My B7 is likely a write off with major hail damage. It’s insured for just under 27k and can get into a B8 alltrack for around 33 or the cheapest Wolfsburg I’ve seen at 40k

It’s a hard decision as I loved the pano roof and paddle shift of our sport pack equipped B7 but you can’t find those options together on the standard B8. A pity I can’t afford new as there’s only 4K price difference.

    • Is the DCC in the Wolfsburg different from the drive selection modes in the standard alltrack?

Dunno what the standard Alltrack has. Drive modes in the Wolfsburg change steering, suspension (dampers), transmission, and throttle response. Also climate control and cruise control.
        Cheers

        • Still under 7000km and had two check engine lights come in in the last 2 months.

Both for the same issue. P20ee Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold.

First time I took it back and was advised that it was an AdBlue metering issue. Advised to drive car in Sport mode and be a little vigorous with our driving in that mode.

2 months later get the light again with the same fault code.

Took it back again. Advised that the issue would be referred to head office. Called back to advise that there is a new ECU update for the car.

Advised that the fault should not reoccur.

This was on top of the rearview mirror resin having failed. Resin was running inside and over the auto wipers sensor - auto wipers unusable. Next day was a 42° day and the rearview mirror came completely loose.

Hope all good now. Fingers crossed.

          Still love this car.

          • DPF regeneration

            Hi,

Just wondering how often everyone else finds their Alltrack doing the DPF burn? Mine did it twice last week, only 400km apart. Considering half my km are highway I didn't expect this to occur so often. My wife's Golf 110TDI doesn't do it anywhere near as often.

            Thanks,
            Karl

            • Hi Karl,
Mine seems to do the same. Approx every 400km (with 30,00km on the odo).
Doesn't seem to make much difference whether I do highway or urban running.
What frustrates me most is that I can do a 2 hour run on the freeway, and then 10 minutes after I get off the freeway, it starts to do it's regen.
Had VW service check it out at the last service: all within specs (of course!).
Previous Passat Diesel (2010 125kW) used to only do a regen every 1000km or so)

              • Gazza,

Thanks for that. Yeah it's frustrating how it lacks any intelligent programming. I've had it try 3 times on short trips and then do it again on the next longer trip because it never completed. At least it's "normal"

                Cheers,
                Karl

                • Mine seems fairly regular - although I don’t take much notice admittedly.

There’s little point in comparing with what previous generation vehicles behaviour was because the Euro 6 programming will result in different emissions equipment behaviour compared to previous gens.

                  • Refill amount

                    Hi All,

Another question, what's the most diesel you've refilled? Yesterday I had range showing 30km and filled, it took 64.9 L, I'd done 1082km just commuting not a highway trip. Just curious as to how much was actually left in the tank, I'd heard rumours that despite the brochure saying 66L it was actually 70L.

                    Thanks,
                    Karl

                    • Dunno the actual volume, bu if the brochure says 66L, then knowing VW that will be the ‘usable volume’. Total volume will be a bit bigger because there needs to be volume to spare for when the fuel expands in the hottest climates. Usable volume also doesn’t necessarily include a few litres that - depending on which way the vehicle is leaning, may not be able to be scavenged by the lift pump.
                      Cheers

                      • Hi,

Has anyone got High Beam Assist (not DLA) going in their Passat Wolfsburg? Mine is a Sep 2018 model.

I don't have OBDEleven or VCDS at this stage.

                        Cheers.

                        • Better performance?

I've been a bit frustrated by the Alltrack's lack of willingness to accelerate when in D mode for the transmission. Sport mode holds the gears a bit too long for my liking unless you are very gentle with the throttle. I recently changed the custom mode to use Sport for the Drive system, however after shutting down the vehicle and starting again the drive system shows D unless you go into Modes and change away from and back to custom. What I've found though is that if you do nothing, you get a mode in between D and S. Throttle is way more responsive and the drive indicator stays on D. Even in Cruise control the car is more responsive. Perhaps it's using Sport throttle map with D on the transaxle? In any case I'm much happier with the car in this mode and it barely seems to use any more fuel.

I’ve run it to 0 DTE 3 or 4 times now and the most I’ve put in is 66.4L
