Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Rusty Rims, A Bumper Bar Crack and Scratch, and Ambient Lighting Disco wanted.

    Hi guys,

Just bought my 2017 Passat and previous owner did not have it garaged. Time to undo some of the damage.

    1. Most obvious: some serious rust on the inside of some of the rims.
Very keen to hear if you believe this is still possible to get off and how you would recommend doing it.
No where near a mechanic, but can definitely take the wheels off one by one and give them a proper scrub. Pic 1 for the state it's in.

    2. There's a crack in the lower bumper bar (probably a tow bar).
I'm trying to find the part to get pricing to replace it but haven't been successful as of yet, any suggestions? Pic 2a for reference and 2b as a zoom out.
As it's quite minor, I wonder if it would be possible to fix if the plastic is pushed back a bit / could a body work shop do a decent job?

Same for the little scratch on the headlight in pic 3. Probably not fixable, right? And anyone idea for a part number?

    3. Not damage related: I've seen videos of ambient lighting in different colours. My settings don't have that option at all, just white. Is this just what it is, or is there some kind of hack to enable different colours?

Keen to learn from you guys!
