Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Am I missing a trim piece?

    Hi all

I'm hoping for a bit of help from anyone who has a B8 R-Line wagon. 206 or Comfortline - it probably doesn't matter. It relates to the R-Line rear spoiler and centre rear brake light.

My car is about two months old and finally had its first wash (we were away and it hasn't been driven much). During the wash I noticed a strange gap around the centre rear brake light, above the rear window. I hadn't studied the area closely before and assume it's been this way since new. It's not that obvious when standing at a normal height, the photos below are taken from down low, looking up. There are a few spots that look like they accept clips for some sort of surrounding trim piece.

Does your car have what mine has, or do you have something else that makes the whole thing look flush around the light?

    Nothing wrong there mate.

On the 206TSI Wagon (and R-Line optioned 132TSI and 140TDI Wagons), it is just a "Rear roof spoiler with black aerodynamic extensions (Wagon)" as per the sales brochure.

On my previous 140TDI Highline Wagon, it just had the colour coded spoiler (with integrated brake light) and the black extensions that run down either side. On yours (and the R-Line Package) the black extension runs up in front of the coloured spoiler also. It creates a deeper looking spoiler.

    I trust this makes sense...

Thanks mate. That does make sense however around the actual light there is still a strange gap that is either really inelegant or there's a bit missing. In fact, Googling around suggests that I'm not missing a black frame as I thought, I'm actually missing a whole red covering like this. This shot has the brake light flush with the spoiler, and it looks a lot larger than mine because I think it's a cover (whereas with mine I'm looking directly at the LED).

Would love to know exactly how it looks on others.

        You are wrong.
That picture is a 140TDI Highline Wagon without the R-Line package.
That is how my rear end looked too (except mine was Harvard Blue).

Hard to spot a clear picture, but have a look at this one for sale on carsales; 2017 Volkswagen Passat 206TSI R-Line B8 Auto 4MOTION MY18-SSE-AD-5831354

and another; 2015 Volkswagen Passat 140TDI Highline B8 - Motorbiz

It should make sense, the black "spoiler extension" goes across the top and sides of the original spoiler.

I think you might be onto something.
            Have a look here; https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...SE-AD-5741163/
and here; Beachside Volkswagen - 2017 Volkswagen Passat 206TSI R-Line B8 MY18 (White) for sale in Frankston

Very hard to make out, but possibly an infill should be there surrounding the "red" centre / third brake light.

Yep definitely doesn’t look as clean as this on the standard wagon

Strange that they would make it unfinished.

Thanks all. I have had a good look at all the wagons on Carsales but none of the photos are at the perfect angle to answer this definitively for the R-Line spoiler.

Yes it is strange though not without precedent in our family.

My sister’s 2015 Golf was missing the footrest to the left of the accelerator and brake pedals - there was no plastic wedge there, just flat carpet with a hole. She hadn’t noticed until I pointed it out. Fortunately there wasn’t an argument with VW and they added it in. Hopefully the same happens here.

There you go, the detective work payed dividends...
Pop into your friendly VW dealer and organise the trim piece.

                    Well played!

I’m currently being pinballed between dealer, the closest service centre (the dealer is ages away so I’m hoping the local dealer can do it) and Volkswagen Australia. I was naievely hoping this would be easy.

I’ll hopefully get it resolved, eventually.

                          Did you know?
                          - wait time on this is 4-6 weeks. It’s not held in Australia.
                          - the cost, if I was to pay for it, would be $483 for just the black frame!! Part no. VW-3G0827954041

                            No warranty?

The wait time is like that for Passat.

Should be covered by warranty but there is bureaucracy to deal with first.

Practically I’m told it’s easier to get the dealer that sold the car to do it as a goodwill gesture as a separate warranty claim needs to be documented properly, the car needs to be booked in and assessed, etc. That takes time and then they need to order the part
