Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

So for anyone who may be interested, the following is a summary of my tyre life.
The car is a MY2017 R-Line with a sunroof. Sedan. Purchased new on about the 17 July 2017. Current Ks 106000
    All km are approx
At 33000 replaced original Conti tyres with Yokohama’s.
    At 31000 replaced the Yoki’s with Falken’s.
In the next 10000 the Falken’s will be replaced giving the Falken’s the best run on a mileage basis (42000ks +). I’ll probably go with Falken’s again but will look at Coopers too. Tyre pressure run at 40psi in summer & 42psi in winter. Tyres rotated at every 10,000k
Performance wise I think the Conti’s & Yoki’s grip better but not so much better than the Falken’s to justify the addition cost. That’s my 2 cents worth anyway!

Contis are very noisy on my car. Can't wait to replace them. Looking at the Bridgestone Turanza ER33 - used it before and love it!

My Alltrack Wolfsburg has Pirelli Cinturato P7’s, and my wife’s comfortline has the same tyre (obviously in a different size). These are the ones with the ‘seal inside’ goo. Am very happy with them and at this stage have no reason to change to something else. The ‘seal inside’ proved its worth recently when my wife’s car picked up a puncture. It lost a little pressure (enough to set off the pressure loss warning system), but when I removed the screw that caused the puncture, there was no further pressure loss. I still repaired the hole with a plug (because I’m old skool), but I was pleased that athe tyre was not damaged because the goo prevented further pressure loss.
        Cheers

Did 33000 on Contis from new.
Did 31000 on Yokohamas (total odometer reading was therefore 64000)
Did 42000 on Falkens (total odometer reading now 106000).

What you were thinking and what you wrote are not the same Evey one took it that the time of change was the odo reading not the distance traveled which would have read
                  At 31000
                  At 64000
                  At 105000

                    Ha ha.
I see your point - let me correct
So after a further 31000ks (or at 64000ks) went to the Yokis. It looks like the Falken’s will do 40000ks +

I replaced both the front tyres at 40k km due to bulging on one of them & rear tyres are still unchanged. I never rotate my tyres, should I?

Not too sure about Coopers on a car like this. I know they make an excellent off road tyre, tough sidewalls and durable carcass. They last a long time too but this is largely due to very deep tread depth and hard wearing compound. Great features in an off road tyre but not so great in a car designed to perform and handle like a late model Passat.
