I have a 2012 MY13 118TSI passat wagon that has gone 125K kms since late 2012. At 110K kms the DSG came up with a blinking spanner in the MDF. The VW dealer replaced the entire mechatronic under warranty. Otherwise I've replaced the battery twice, the rear tailgate lock and button. Now have missing satnav & audio info in the MDF (possibly comfort module/gateway issue), cracked safety triangle latch, and intermittent malfunctioning electric window button. Also got some weird noises in the clutch when it changes from 3rd to 4th gear. YMMV.

220,000 on my 2011 MY12 Passat.
So far apart from routine servicing it has need a clock spring (approx $700 installed) and water pump replacement (approx $1000) installed with a new timing belt. The Water Pump was because the geniuses at VW didn't replace the water pump with the timing belt at 95,000 (engine was making an odd tick at idle so we opted for early timing belt replacement).
I am on a cradle to grave strategy on this car. We will see, but I am hoping to get 400K + out of it.08 Golf GT TDI

This thread has been particularly lucky.
I bought my R36 as the second owner after the MY10.5 leases started ending. It had 75,000kms when I picked it up, and it now has 130,000kms. In that time I've spent the following, noting that these are estimates from memory of what things cost. Give or take a few hundred on this.
3x standard book services w/ one major service, $1650.
1x Haldex clutch pump failure replacement @ 90,000kms w/ upgraded controller, $1500.
2x sets of tyres, $1300.
1x failed air conditioning compressor, $1000. (Dealer wanted $3500 for this by the way.)
1x failed battery around 4 years old, $750.
1x failed light and rain sensor however the issue didn't get fixed, $450.
1x failed oil level sensor, $200.
1x wipers front and rear, $100.
So all up over 55,000kms and 3.5ish years of ownership, I've spent somewhere between $6500 and $7000 on maintenance and consumables. Yikes.
Additionally, I had reported that one of my mufflers was rattling at the last service however I bought a full iPE valvetronic exhaust system so that issue never got fixed as such. My washer fluid bottle broke but I had it fixed for free when I did the air con. I also have the classic timing chain rattle caused by stretch, not an issue yet however I have to closely monitor so assuming in the next year or two I will most likely need to have tensioner done, I hear this is expensive but don't know the exact cost. And my rear pads are about due in the next few months, guessing a few hundred bucks.
I still love it though.

Just let go MY12 118TSI with 90,000km.
6 months ago I had to replace the water pump $1200.
The DSG clutch has started slipping 1st/2nd gear. Then the top up oil light coming on regularly led me to take it to VW to learn compression on cylinder 4 was shot and I'd need a rebuild.

I have a 2008 r36 with 220k still going strong but it had a new Dsg at 140k done by the previous owner.
Also a 2009 TDI CC with 210k going strong but DSG clutches wore out around 170k.
From my experience Dsg related problems are the common factor, however I drive them quite hard. These days they don't cost too much to fix, if your willing to do some of the work yourself and hunt around for parts or purchase from overseas....Last edited by rjt86; 02-06-2017, 10:49 PM.

I have a 2010 jetta with the 125tdi engine and 6 spd dsg - same engine and gearbox as yours. Bought it at 90,000 km and have now clocked 207,000 km. Regular services and mostly highway driving. Only issue was a sensor fail on the inlet manifold fixed under extended warranty. Its been bulletproof apart from that.
Actually thinking of upgrading to the passat 130 tdi.2006 Silver Jetta TFSI

I have a mark 6 tdi 103kw with 147k on the clock owned since new not 1 issue that requires attention apart from reg servicing with my specialist vw mechanic. I find the tdi are usually more robust than the petrol versions as the motor is engineered to withstand the much higher compression of diesel combustion
I am a heavy truck driver so know and like the feel of the diesel powertrain with lots of low down torque so much so i am upgrading to a new diesel 7.5 alltrack (3 more weeks to wait!) and my car is going to my daughter for her 1st car
For costs just had major service(no timing belt)front brakes and rotors and dsg service for $1100
Vw's are not super cheap to maintain but if you keep the servicing up to them will last you a long time2017 Golf Alltrack 135tdi All options
