  • 4 Motion rear diff oil change?

I've seen lots of references to the need to change both the DSG and Haldex oil & filter every 60,000 km or 4 years.
However what about the rear diff on a 4 Motion? Should that oil be changed and if so how often?

    Any information greatly appreciated.

I do mine and recommend every 30,000km. Those strapped for cash I'd suggest every 60,000km especially when they want to keep the car for a long time. Most VW diffs hold around 1L of oil, so it's not a big deal.

No service interval on it, however there's nothing stopping you from chaning it.

Oil is nothing special, just full-synthetic 75W-90 gear oil.

Thanks Transporter and Umai Naa!!. It sounds like an optional thing to give longevity every opportunity even though the old oil will probably look quite clean. I suppose it should be filled to the filler hole?

          Yeah, pretty much.

Main thing is to be 100% certain you're draining and filling through the correct plugs.

Is there some good clear diagrams on performing this change?
