  • Airbag fault passat b6 tdi

Hi got the airbag fault this morning. Have read it can be the connector on the front driver or passenger seat. Attached is a shot of the passenger side Is it worth disconnecting and then re connecting? Heard they can corrode over time. Does the battery need to be disconnected when you pull the connector? Apparently this was the subject of a recall in US and Europe? Any one else had this fault and what was the fix? Thanks

Disconnecting the battery is the safe option. They shouldn't ignite anyway. Regardless of that being the issue, the light will remain until you have it cleared with vcds or similar.

Yep, airbag and ABS faults won't self clear.

Side impact sensors under the rear seat are common on the Passat.

Took it to bayford in fairfield clise to home 165 down the toilet for diagnostic and clear code now it is back they reckon it could be the wiring on the passenger seat which is a known issue is this a hard one to fix yourself? Can you ditch the connectors and wire directly ?

Yes, you can bypass the connectors, but VW strongly recommends the red Duraseal (eBay them. Cheap as) connectors to crimp join the wires and seal them.

Thinking of having a go at fixing this myself. Any tips / tricks to removed the seat? I have heated seats as well.

                Thanks

If your airbag fault is just wiring, you got off lightly. I needed a new airbag control module for a mere $840 + labour.

getting in done at Volkwerke today needs a new clock spring as suspected. Lucky they had a part here.

For future reference if anyone is reading this in the future, airbag fault clear in VCDS needs to be done from the airbag module itself, not from the check codes section. Mine triggered once during some spirited driving when traction control came in particularly hard, worked out not to be a real fault, thankfully.
