  • Has anyone lowered their B7 Passat?

    Hi all

Am looking to buy a 2011+ passat V6 sedan, and was wondering if any owners had lowered their cars?

If so, please let me know some details (cost, effect, etc)

The car looks great, especially in some colours, and so do the wheels. Just wish it was about 20mm lower, like the old R36s were

    cheers

The sports pack lowers the car by about 20 mm (I think) compared to the std, pic of my wagon:

The mud-flaps do scrape when going over speed humps or when you go through a dip at freeway speeds!

How low do you want to go? I find that this height works for me (each to their own!).

I priced up Eibach springs for mine, they're around $600 for the set plus fitting. I eventually decided against it as a friend put the same springs into his Polo and I felt it ruined the ride.

I wouldnt lower one They rub on awkward driveways as they are and the mudflaps rub when going over some gutters.

A nice ride as it is.

If you get some decent quality coilovers you can still retain a good ride and have increased handling and better stance.

thanks for the responses! I didn't realise that there was a sport pack. Is that the one that includes the paddles, and bigger wheels? I'll look into that...

                cheers

Sports pack is sports suspension (20mm lower) 18" wheels, paddles on steering wheel, Privacy glass for rear windows, Racing style seats (well worth the extra cost alone)

+1. Fully agree. Ride is very comfortable and seats are great whether a short burst or a long cruise.

I had my front windows tinted to (legally) match the rears. Also, had clear (IR/UV) film put on the factory tinted rears as the tint is dark but does not block IR/UV . . . the factory privacy tint is in the glass itself and not a film.

I've owned really low cars before so maybe its just my driving style...

Mine actually goes on 3 wheels up my driveway because of how steep the curb is.. Never scrapes or rubs though.

Besides being 10mm, 15mm, 20mm lower (nobody seems quite sure!) - what actual changes are there to the suspension that accompanies the B7 Passat Sport Package? Does the vehicle weigh more than a regular Passat? There is absolutely no information about a lowered chassis or sports suspension given by VW and the only reason I know about it is because of this forum, albeit after signing the new car contract. To be sure, one can readily access information about the sports seats, Vincenza alloys, paddles shifts, 18" wheels, tinted rear windows via the Passat brochure, but that's it. I'm looking forward to delivery day, but I hope to God the lowered suspension doesn't cause me grief on Melbourne roads! No mudflaps for me, ay?!?!

I was thinking along the same lines as buzyrobot. The brochure for the 2012 Passat describes the Sports Package, but doesn't make any mention of lowered suspension, nor steering wheel paddles.

Do these defintely come with the package, or are they additional again?

I'll have to look into the tinting, where did you go in Syd?

I can confirm that the Sports pack on the Alltrack definitely comes with the steering paddle shift and am confident that the normal Passat Sports has this too.

As for lowering the car, if your doing it to make it look better I think the standard height is fine. It doesn't really look high. Maybe someone can tell us if the Passat has any body roll on std suspension. I can tell you that I'm very impressed with the Alltrack. It of course sits higher and has the smallest amount of body roll. Not sure if its because of less tyre roll with the 18s or the 4motion.

What wheels do you have, 17s?

Here's a pic of my mates passat on 19s with standard suspension.

The Sports kit comes with bling wheels, paddles, lowered suspension, sports seats and rear window tinting.

Here is a piccy of mine a day or two after it was delivered - still with the misaligned rear passenger window trim (replaced at the 1000km service). Also had the front windows tinted to match the rears and UV film added to the rear windows (including the cargo area).
