Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • AFS fault

So yesterday the afs fault warning came on so I checked the lights. The left xenon bulb flashes a bit then goes out and the right is a bit more yellow than I remember.
How do I tell if it’s just a bulb or a ballast issue? A scan says 00978 left bulb and 01328
Are these codes bulb issues or do I have two problems?
    Thanks!

Very likely, it's just the bulb; if flashing means the igniter in the ballast is working.

A quick way to check is by swapping the bulbs over, is the issue moves, it's the bulb; if not, it's the ballast.

I used PowerBulbs last time for my HIDs and they had fast delivery to AUS.

Thanks for the quick reply! I’ve tried Repco and Burson and they have virtually nothing in the D1s range. How quick were power bulbs?

Took about one week; I was upgrading, so no big deal. The B7s had like 3000k globes from the factory (Too yellow for me )

Local stock is around, but you will pay a lot more.

          Hi,

I had one go awhile back and I replaced both with Osram Night Breaker Laser. Excellent quality and an upgrade on my originals. I guess there are copies about as the pack comes with a code to check with Osram they are genuine. I got them from the UK, pretty sure it was Power Bulbs.

          cheers

The new bulbs fixed my problem. I was also very happy to find broken wires on the high beam shutter solenoid because I’ve had intermittent high beam issues. I was going to get a second hand headlight but it’s very hard to find a pre 2008 bi xenon.
While I had the bumper off and headlights out I also did the radiator. That wasn’t much fun and neither was bleeding the air out afterwards.
