Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Tailgate does not lock anymore...DIY fix preferred

    Hi people,

VW service said $400!!! to replace my tailgate lock, which makes this huge embarrassing Buzzing noise, when trying to engage the lock, they said the teeth are slimpy worn out, pretty crap quality if you ask me, so more than happy to buy chinese.

Anyhow, I'm here to ask anyone that has had to replace a tailgate lock themselves, as to how much and where i can buy one for a B7 PAssat 2013 TDI highline, comes with auto tailgate, not sure that matters with the actual tailgate lock it self.

I can see on ebay they sell chinese knock offs, them for around $40 but all say for B6, I'm happy to buy one, but need to know the B6 and B7 use identical tailgate mechanisms.

I can see how to remove the bottom half of the tailgate lining, that looks easy and same with the lock, just really need confirmation about the part no. for B7 or that the B7 uses the same as the B6.

    Cheers
    K
