Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Need access to power

I have a 12v to 5v dual usb that I want to wire in permanently into the car which will connect to my wireless charging pad for my phone. My question is where can I hook it up to? I have a B7 Passat.

Use a fuse tap and hook it into either an always on or a ACC on depending on what you want One of the two in the fuse pic is always on and one is ACC Cant remember which is which but easy to find out

CAUTION BOTH of these are actually SPARE SLOTS but have power at the bottom so you can put an addafuse in wth only a fuse it the top slot. Meter them out before you buy the addafuse because the bottom one is a standard fuse size and the top one is a Mini.

Your car may NOT be the same Mine is a TDI Highline. There is a screw up above the fuse panel that you can attach the earth to.
The fuses shown are unobtainable in AUS now but came from Jaycar

You must put the addafuse in with the wire pointing UP in that fusebox as in those two only the bottom of each one has power You can see the metal in there anyway

      Thanks for the response.
That fuse piggyback is a good idea.

Is the only way to do it properly in a VW as you cant splice into circuits or it will cause problems
