Importing diesel Phaeton UK, Is it possible?

Just a question about importing the diesel phaeton (2004-2006) from the UK?
Has anyone done it?
Are there any in Aus?
I have a family member in London. Can he bring one on holidays then leave it here?
Is it considered a "grey import"?
Any other outside of the box ways of doin it.?
Any replies greatly apreciated.

Don't know about imports from UK.

One V8 Phaeton was sold here after the Motor Show, just before VW decided not to introduce the Phaeton here.

Also there is one in WA apparently.

This is something that is often asked here

Basically it is not easy & really only 2 ways of doing it

To have owned the car & lived in the country you are importing from for 12 months or more & or
The car must be in 1989 or earlier

If you are thinking of sneaking under the radar with it, you might have problems when comes time to register it for road use, as importing is fairly easy but the registration is very hard with an imported car

Why bother getting one from the uk when the Kiwis are already onto something here. Phaeton sold officially in NZ however this one appears to be an import. http://www.autotrader.co.nz/View/Use...8+4294964814+0. Wonder why cars like this are available there by not here, the same story with the v6 Eos. However this is a lot of car for about $AUD50k.

I have not heard of "grey import"?

Grey imports are models that are imported by either private buyers or non affiliated companies.. that is they bring in cars that are not officially imported by local representatives for that particular make/model.

The downside is that they dont have an Australian Compliance plate you need an engineers certificate to register and insure them.

Cars registered in their "home" country can usually be driven on the roads for a limited time with a permit issued by the local road authority. This holds true for LHD cars too.
