Sorry can't help you when it comes to using a non genuine cable. This is the problem with using cheap knock offs. Sometimes they work some times they don't.
Perhaps there is someone local to you with a genuine cable that can help you out.

Will depend what year the car is. The blue KKL cables are good for pre CAN.
I just saw you are B5.5 Cable should work. Need correct software.
I splashed out the $90 for the Vag-Com software because it does stuff easier than some of the backdoor stuff.
