A big thanks to Michael Weber at Performance & Prestige in Brisbane who fixed a failed Haldex pump on my R36 wagon. You have no idea how much work the Haldex does until it stops working! When mine went suddenly 2WD I figured on a huge bill for a new Haldex unit. But P&P simply stripped down the pump, cleaned, resealed, re-lubed and I was back on the road in full working order for less than $200. Outstanding! Apparently they've 'done' a few of these, so if yours plays up I highly recommend giving them a call...

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Give it a bootful at the lights, and the front wheels spin like crazy, Traction control lights fires up etc. Doesn't happen with a working Haldex. Thence onwards to VAGS diagnostics indicates failed pump. But it becomes really obvious as soon as it happens as the whole dynamics of the car change (for the worse). I don't think it could ever go undetected!MY 2010.5 R36 wagon - Biscay Blue - power tailgate - 1800kg tower.

FYI this is what I also went through but blamed my tyres before diagnosing the fault. No pump means you're not pressurising to drive the clutch which means your rear wheels are permanently disengaged, which obviously means no AWD so less grip and thus the issues the OP describes. If you baby the car it will actually be hard to notice mostly, if you're an enthusiastic driver you will notice something is off pretty quickly.
My pump is probably not repairable as the death of mine was an electrical fault, you can also just replace the pump with new, it's a $700 part or closer to $600 if you know someone in the parts department. For my car the part number was 0AY598549A but best check with VW as yours may be different.
