Right Dipped Beam not working

Ok so ive upgraded my passatfrom b6 to b7 and in my b6 i bought a aftermarket hidkit and had it in for a good 6-7 months, now when i upgraded to a b7 passati got that aftermarket hidkit and put it in there, it ran fine for a week and then the right side dipped beam wouldnt turn on all the time and eventually stopped working, i thought the bulb or ballast had failed but after inspecting i find theres no power going to the h7 connector? ive checked all the fuses and they are all fine so what could the problem be?? the left side dipped beam is still working, also i took the connector that connects to the headlight with all the wires and i tested there as well and theres no power neither on it for the dipped beam

this is easy to fix.. put correct legal HID in with the headlight washer and levelling system.

im sick of all you law fairy's, you dont need a stupid washer system, ive had hids on my previous car and they were fine no problem, no one cared at all, as long as u level them right they will be fine and really who the hell uses the washer system anyway, ive got another audi which has the factory hids and i can count on my fingers the amount of times i've used the stupid washers which just spray the bonnet more than the headlights

How do you level the right when going up an incline though? Or with a full load in the car?

You will need to track back your power supply to the headlight itself then, could be as simple as a blown fuse or as major as a control unit. Just be aware, a lot of light circuits get switched off on VW if they aren't functioning, so just because it is not working now doesn't mean the power supply is rooted. Swap over the other unit and see if that works after performing an ignition/light cycle.

Did you put in a "canbus friendly" kit with the extra resistor or a standard kit?

Did you do any VCDS coding after the install?

no i bought the canbus friendly kit, it worked perfectly on my b6 passat which didnt flicker at all nothing, this is one worked fine too until some times the right light would turn on and off and eventually turned off completely. i would have done it via vsds but i dont have one

i dont think the headlight unit is fault because like i said, i take the whole connector out which connects to the headlight and the dipped beam wire doesnt turn on, whereas on the left headlight if i take the headlight connector and test the dipped beam wire it comes on , so i dont know .

Swap it over to confirm then. Like i said, circuits in these will shutdown if the j519 isn't happy.

as in swap the headlight unit? is there any way i can do this without removing the actual headlights haha? also i just remembered your the guy who vag comed my a5 ! thanks for that, its still burning oil tho and i replaced the fuel lock mechanism, apperently its very common on them

Nope, just swap over the bulb and HID unit. That way you can isolate where the fault is. If fault stays on the same side when swapped then clearly there is an issue in the electrical circuit to that side, in that case drop me a PM with your vin# and I can give you some guidance with where to look.

If the fault does move to the other side, then it will be one of the 2 components at fault, the ballast or the bulb itself.

Along the same lines as Snail Styles advice, I'd revert back to the halogens (you don't even have to fit them into the housings) and see what happens. Make sure you cycle both the ignition & headlight switch back to OFF.

If that works then it's probably a ballast issue.

There is a slight possibility that the "canbus friendly" ballast has damaged the BCM but usually the wipers & (possibly horn??) play up at the same time.

I run "canbus friendly" on my Octavia (due to ignorance at the time) and I coded them in as well. I'm told it's a ticking time bomb but it's been good for 5 years so maybe not.

If I was buying again I'd buy without a resistor & code them.

If you have damaged a module it might be worth reading the codes.

oh the hid unit, yeah the was the first thing i did ,at first i thought it was a bad bulb/ballast but i tested it on the other side and it worked, i even put halogens to test and they still wouldnt turn on

my wipers are fine, im going to a dealer tomorrow since they gave me 3 months full warranty when i bought the car , if they cant fix it il go from there
