  • RNS510 rear DVD screens

the R36 Wagon I've ordered comes with the RNS510 system and rear view camera installed. Does anyone know whether this unit has the capacity to hook up additional screens for the back seats?

I don't think that the RNS510 will let you watch a DVD while driving.

I bought an Alpine system for mine (six stacker DVD with remote control, two 5.8" screens and two wireless headphones) at the Brisbane motorshow for $1499 from Gold Coast Car Sound.

RNS should have composite video outs - AVC-9000 has them.

Apparently, if the wire to the park brake for the DVD playback gets earthed, video will still play while driving!?!?

Check out the VWNavi forums, there are kits you can buy which allows you to do this

Probably wrong thread to ask, but 3Putt do you know whether the video outs on the AVC-900 keep playing video when driving without having to fool the Head Unit?

Don't know that one, and won't be setting up screens in the back anyway.

            Sorry I can't help more.

Does anyone know how music is loaded onto the RNS510 HDD? Do you need to use the original disc or can u load up MP3s on a DVD and save them in bulk? Does the track/album names transfer across this way aswell?

My understanding was you could use a DVD-R, CD-R or SD Card to transfer all your MP3's to the unit. All the songs name/ablum will get transferred across if you have set them up properly on your computer.

Begs the question then.....get the iPod connector? or just load up music into the HDD? I think the iPod set up does not display track details. Its set up like a CD changer (first 5 playlists are treated as a CD, last playlist is all tracks on the iPod).

                    Correct on the transfer.

I havent tried from a DVD but have done with a CD and SD card. Load up the media of your choice, insert and transfer.

Ipod kit....ehh...I guess if you really wanted to but I've not sold one RNS510 and Ipod Kit to anyone. 20gig of music in the car plus 20gig+ from an ipod....how long do you plan on driving non-stop that you need that many songs???

Whilst a great idea to load up music on the HDD, keep in mind that IPOD format songs (AAC I think) will not play on the RNS...
Not a problem if you just have MP3's, but if you buy music through ITunes you won't be able to play it without the IPod kit.

There are AAC to MP3 converters on the net......should work.
